How can I tell if I have an inline water filter on the water main?

I got some great advice about finding out what's causing this yucky odor from incoming water into my house....now I'm trying to figure out if there's an inline water filter somewhere...to check to see if filter's dirty. It's my first time buying a house and I didn't know enough about asking the right kinds of questions re this. Help??

A big filter on your water main will look a bit like a giant drink cup in your house's main water supply. If you have a basement, it'll be down there. If a crawlspace, probably there or somewhere close to the access hatch for ease in changing the filter; otherwise it'll be in a closet somewhere. Find where the main comes into the house and start tracing; if you have a whole-house filter it'll be on that line somewhere after the garden hose supply leaves the line, but before anything else does.

A regular filter won't reduce odors. An activated-carbon filter will.

But before you burn up a lot of time looking for that and maybe tearing out the knees of your pants crawling under the house, do this: run the water for a couple of minutes. If the house has been sitting empty for several months waiting for a buyer, the water in the pipes can go stale and smell awful.

Do I need a inline water filter for my tankless water heater?

I bought an ezdeluxe tankless water heater from http://www.eztankless.com Do I really need to install a filter or water softener? I have heard that these types of water heaters can get clogged.

Filters in front of anything that flows water is always a good idea, keeps the larger particles from entering the downstream side.

The softener though is another story. If your water is "hard" then you will probably need to install one. The calcium is the big problem with tankless systems and it will coat the inside and take the efficiencies way down if you don't clean them often enough. Check the manufacturers recommendations and see if your local utility can tell you the average test results for their water. If you use well water you will probably need a softener.

Also don't forget to get a flushing kit.

PS: Books are out on the net to help ya out. See my sources.

Best in line water filter system for home use?

Has anyone used a home inline water filter system they would recommend
The city water system is really bad.Well know for build up and corrosion. The dogs water bowl builds up with a clear hard like crust on the bottom. You have to scrub it out.The coffee pot needs complete cleaning every month. No smell to water. If this is any clues to a good filter system.

Last year, I got an Aqua-Safe reverse osmosis system with 6-stage filtration (the RO membrane, one particulate filter, three carbon filters, and one ion exchange filter). It generates 100 gallons per day and comes with a 5 gallon storage tank. It cost about $200 and it came with a 5-year supply of replacement filters, including replacement ion resin beads. It takes my water from about 3000 PPM to under 5 (it even came with a digital PPM meter).

The water that comes out of it is as good as any I have ever tasted. We also have a line running from it to our refrigerator. So, the ice is very clear and the cold water coming from the dispenser is awesome.

I highly recommend a reverse osmosis system, if you have the room and can afford it.

looking for a complete inline water filtering sisterm for my house that is in town?

the watering sisterm i am after are the carbone and dirt filter totake all comtaments out i hope you can help with a sisterm that may do the job properly

You can install a mechanical filter, and if you want very pure water, you can add a reverse osmosis system on the drinking water line. You can search this online under water filter systems good luck

i am looking for an inline garden hose water filter to remove scale ect when washing my car?

The only one I know of is the Mr. Clean Car Wash system available everywhere, it uses filter cartridges that only last me about two car washes with our super-hard water here in the South. Expensive but worth it to me.

  • In line fuel filter question - VAF Forums

Before you’re A&P gets all cranked up about the location of the fuel filter on your 10, and the virtues of gascolators, let me attach a letter I wrote to another gentleman about the subject. Maybe if you show this to you’re A&P he’ll realize there’s more than one reason why we to do things a different way. Just because a process has been around for 70 years it may or may not apply to new technology. If you have, or you’re A&P has additional questions on this subject, feel free to give me a call. To fully understand the situation, you must first understand why a gascolator was used in the first place. Back when carburetors were the only source of fuel metering on aircraft, water was a detriment to the operation of the engine. Of course water won’t burn but the main reason was that water being heaver than fuel would sink to the bottom of the float bowl. Water also has a higher surface tension than fuel. Since the main jets are located in the bottom of the float bowl and...
