I am asking mainly to see if there is a three stage filter instead of Brita's 2 stage "on tap" filter.

Pur and Brita filters aren't compatible. If you want a 3 stage, you'll have to get a Pur filter.

Demonstration of PUR Water Filter Stage 3 failure

Hey, well I have four fish;three females and one male. Ever since we got them last August 7, we have used the Pur three stage water filter that attaches to the sink as their bowl water. Know that we got a new faucet, we bought one of those water filters that goes in the bottom of the sink and has water come out of a different faucet. it is a general electric dual stage filter. Will this in any way affect my fish negatively? Thank You!!!

I recomend agenest useing filtered water one of the things the filters do is remove minerals from the water minerals that the fish need

the difference in filters and filter systems wont effect the fish but again it is better to use non filtered water

i just looked at my fish tank filter and it has some kind of brown algae type stuff growing on it.
i have the aqua clear three stage filter.
and theres the brown algae growing on the biomax rock things and where the water comes out.
i wiped my finger across it and it comes off easily.

is the algae a bad thing?

No I have the same stuff growing on my power filter for my ten gallon. It's beneficial for it removes a lot of the toxic chemicals that build up from fish waste and rotten food. I trim mine when it starts growing in to the tank, but I've noticed since I've left it that I don't need to do as frequent of water changes, or change the filter media.
In fact I haven't changed the media in about 6 months and with regular water changes still get perfect test readings.

I am looking at getting a five gallon fish tank and I have it narrowed down between two tanks. One has a three-stage filtration system and the other has a power filter with filter cartridge. Here are the websites if you want to take a look.

The second is A LOT better. If you want longer living, healthier fish then the aqua gardens tank is the tank to buy.

i have 4 small fish in my ten gallon tank. i have one of those aquaclear three stage filters. and the water abolutely refuses to clear up. it was crystal clear for about two weeks and then one day i woke up and it looked terrible. its cloudy and almost has a reddish tint to the water. i've tried putting cycle in it and it did nothing. i change twenty % of water once to twice a week.
any suggestions.

Reddish tint? Do you have any drift wood in the tank? Usually tannins will leach into the water causing a yellow, sometimes orange color.

Do not add cycle to the tank.

Something in your tank is leaching color. What color is the gravel? Driftwoods, clay pots or decorations? Red isn't a normal color for bacterial bloom.

Brown could be a type of algae or diatom bloom. Basically 25% water changes. you can also add a phosphorus pad to your filter media to draw out the phosphates which they feed on. Also how long are you keeping your lights on for? Cutting down on the light and making sure it isn't in direct light will also help.
