I'm looking for something that really works well. A purifier, not just a filter. Something .2 micron (or smaller) and with a built-in way to automatically chemically treat the water (iodine/chlorine etc). There are several on the market and I'm looking for other peoples experiences and opinions. Something that could be used full time for weeks at a time on long trips where your only water source is creeks and lakes and in countries with questionable tap water.

Any recommendations for a water filter for South East Asia? I will be traveling to Laos and Thailand for a very extended period of time. I've been looking at the MSR stuff but want to see if their is anything else out there.

Don't understand why you would need a water filter here. Bottle water is everywhere in these countries and very cheap about 7 to 10 baht a bottle.

I am frequent traveller and love to travel by road to remote places. Some time I face problems in procuring clean drinking water in such areas. Bottled water is either not available or is of some unknown brand that you cannot trust. I therefore need some device which can deliver appx 10 bottles of drinking water a day using electricity or car battery. System should be light weight, small in size and easily portable.

I am traveling to Costa Rica soon. Normally we stay at a resort so all bottled water is provided for you but this time we are staying at our family residence and want to save money. So we want to bring a brita pitcher with us and was wondering if that is allowed on airplanes.

There should be no problem. But I would put the filter cartridges in the check-in luggage.

I am about to travel to 3rd world countries where water mostly contaminated.
Do you know where i can buy a personal water filter? or something that I can get the water clean immediately before drinking? I don't have enough time to buy online....so Home depot? sears? anyone can give me what you got please?

Answer(1), Yes, I know bottled water available everywhere, but I have good reasons to look for personal or portable water filter.

Most of the malls have a shop for electrical and appliances.. they do sell water filter please check in SM and Robinson.
