Ultraviolet exposure to water (useless feature) : There are water filters in the market that boast that they have a facility that exposes the water flow under ultraviolet lamp for 15-20 seconds. Well be aware that the water in the river, sea, and tanks is exposed to sun’s ultraviolet light throughout the day. Hence, the water is already well treated with ultraviolet rays. Even if it is not, and the water filter boasts of exposing the water under ultraviolet light for few seconds, the process does not kill 100 percent of the germs, it just deactivates them for few minutes and they become active again.
Reverse Osmosis (hazardous to health): Reverse Osmosis or popularily called "RO" is a very dangerous feature. It takes away almost ALL the salts, dirt, chemicals, organisms,

The best in this category is 'Pure it' from Hindustan Unilever, b'coz I'm using it. It doesn't need electricity & very simple process.

Does a biological media fish pond filter (without any mechanical media) really keep a fish pond clean?
Wick River

I know that they keep the water healthy but I am having trouble believing that it will filter out small enough particles to keep it really clean. I have one in mind to buy that has a built in ultraviolet light. I don't mind spending the extra money because the ease of maintenance and the idea of not having to disassemble and clean mechanical filter pads is very appealing. But, I do want very clean water. Any help would be very much appreciated.

If it's big enough for the amount of water in your pond it will definitely do the job. They only fail when the amount of waste coming in is greater than the surface area can cope with. Then they stop being a filter and just pump water.

2.The ozone layer of Earth's atmosphere helps to filter ultraviolet radiation. As the ozone layer is depleted, more ultraviolet radiation reaches Earth's surface. This increase in ultraviolet radiation may be harmful because it can directly cause

photosynthesis to stop in all marine organisms
abnormal migration patterns in waterfowl
mutations in the DNA of organisms
sterility in most species of mammals and birds

Burn coal - you can't grow more coal

I am having difficulty breathing in my neck this morning?

My mom demanded me to come in her room to tell me that she doesn't like the snow.
She's laying in her bed watching the snow on tv. And, I like the snow. I can get nice photos of the snow...

Snow also reflects lots of ultraviolet, which means color films pick up lots of blue in the shadows on sunny days. The ultraviolet (UV) filter does little to reduce this, in our experience; the skylight (lA), which has a slight pinkish color, works better.

"Water Flows Toward Enlightenment"

by Amber "V" Moonstone

Water flows toward the endless sea,
the strength of this flow amazes me,
flowing from the river,
through the brooks and down
the many waterfalls
that stretch through my back yard.

Watching the thunderous flow,
as the Earth melts all the snow,
makes me aware of my own life's energy.
Is It as smooth and natural as the Earth's flow?

At this very moment it is not.
I am blocked, closed, alone, lonely, sad,
overworked, stretched too far...
but I can see a light at the end of the tunnel,
It is this light that always sustains my soul.

I must go to my sacred place;
that place that always ignites
the light that constantly dwells within.
The days that are the darkest,
reep the most lightness.

To remind me of my goodness,
to remind me of my destiny,
to remind me of my journey,
and mostly to remind me that
the Universe is counting on me
to deliver what I treasure the most,
"Peace, love and lightness!"

What I have seen today,
has sparked a flicker of hope
that I will soon be on the right
path toward my energy flow
into the endless sea of life.

ABOUT A SNOWFLAKE]
Life of a Snowflake By Dean Thorpe

Frozen water drop, falling from the sky.
Slowly drifting down, from the clouds so high.
No two flakes that fall, are ever the quite same.
Gliding through the air, floating like a flame.
Down towards the Earth, oh where will it land.
On a Christmas tree? In a small boys hand?
No such luck this time, landed on a car.
Speeding down the road, did not travel far.
Windscreen wipers on, snow pushed to the side.
Falling to the floor, nowhere left to hide.
Disappearing now, vanished down the drain.
Floating to the sea, with the fallen rain.
Then another day, back into the sky.
Up into the clouds, how it loves to fly.
On a winters day, time to fall again.
Something fun this time, please not down the drain.
Scooped up as it lands, made into a ball.
See a smiling face, hear a young boy call.
Children gather round, see the man of snow.
Now its feels a part, never wants to go.

Do I really need this for a koi pond?

I found a list of things that I need for a koi pond and I was just wondering if I really need all of this stuff.
-water pump
-bio filter (what is this?)
-mechanical filtration
-ultraviolet light system
-ozonator
-aerator
-waterfall
-fountain
-protein skimmer
-heating system
-underwater lighting

My pond is about 20x10x3 ft with the deepest area 5ft. I got this list from www.koifishponds.com/koi_pond_design.htm if this helps at all.
If I get waterfall can I do without bio-filter and aerator?

If you have the aerator you don't need the waterfall or the fountain, although they look nice. The bio filter just helps keep the sludge and muck out of the works and keeps the water clean. You don't need the underwater lighting if you don't care about seeing the pond at night.

But the rest of it, yeah, you pretty much need for a healthy pond.

EDIT: if the waterfall is robust enough you can replace the aerator with that, no problem, but you really need the filter to keep the pump(s) from clogging. Keep in mind also that these are not self contained systems; you will have to clean/replace the pump media on a regular basis, balance the water chemistry, do partial water changes from time to time...also, if you have racoons in your area you'll want to think about some sort of barrier to keep them out . Racoons think Koi ponds are sushi bars.
