I have replaced the lamp, but the electronic ballast keeps beeping. Is there a way to disconnect the alarm? I talked to a repair man who said that in many cases the alarms malfunction and he now often sells units without the alarms. I have a Sunlight Systems Sunburst water purifier (Sunlight Systems was apparently recently acquired by Siemens).
have you tried cleaning the sight glass that the uv light slides into , sometimes if that gets dirty the alarms will keep buzzing away . some units need to be unplug for a short while say 15 mins and than they reset others have a toggle switch that you pull back to reset
Our cold water (we have NO hot water yet) definitely runs warm for a few moments even on very cold mornings when we first draw water from the faucet. We have an Ultraviolet Light purifier installed but I don't think we have a sediment preflilter. Could the UV be heating up the particulates in our water?
Is the UV bulb on all the time?
If so, the bulb is probably warming the water as it sits in the irradiation chamber. Find the sterilizing unit, and put your hand on it; see if it's warm, and then turn on the water. Feel for a temperature change as the water changes over.
Both are used for treating water. But the methods and the water quality is different.
Ultraviolet radiation has widely been used as a germicidal treatment for water. Mercury low pressure lamps generating 254 nm UV light are an effective means of sanitizing water. The adsorption of UV light by the DNA and proteins in the microbial cell results in the inactivation of the microorganism.
Reverse osmosis (RO) is the most economical method of removing 90% to 99% of all contaminants. The pore structure of RO membranes is much tighter than UF membranes. RO membranes are capable of rejecting practically all particles, bacteria and organics >300 daltons molecular weight (including pyrogens). In fact, reverse osmosis technology is used by most leading water bottling plants
In water purification systems, hydraulic pressure is applied to the concentrated solution to counteract the osmotic pressure. Pure water is driven from the concentrated solution and collected downstream of the membrane.
Because RO membranes are very restrictive, they yield slow flow rates. Storage tanks are required to produce an adequate volume in a reasonable amount of time.
Going into Quito, then to the Amazon for 2 weeks. I was wondering if a UV water purifier would be better than the potable aqua tablets? I only want to kill bacteria so I dont get sick, so which is best? Anyone have experience with either?!
Thanks!
So what type of aftertaste to the tablets have?
Oh, and I will be going through the jungle in the Amazon Basin for an ecological thing. The station we are staying at runs off river water, so I will probably be using those tablets a lot.
If you carry at least 2 UV purifiers and are willing to wait to purify the water they work well when it is sunny. (Figure on 6 hours to clean water when sunny.) But it is inconvenient. If you mean a powered UV purifier they work well but are clumsy.
The tablets works faster but leave an unpleasant taste. I dislike the tablets but they are so much more convenient I use them anyway. This is especially true if you are moving around daily and out of easy access to power or batteries.
And tell me why we dont give these out to poor countries e.g Zimbabwe
What on Earth is wrong with people?!

They have no town water supplies any more because the water companies cannot afford to buy the chemicals to clean the water. This is the result of Magabe's government. He will not allow anyone into the country to help so giving them water purifiers cannot happen. Neither can assistance to get the piped water running again. There are many charities and aid agencies willing to help but the government of Zimbabwe will not allow them. There is nothing wrong with people only something wrong with Magabe.
Ultraviolet Water Purifier – save the earth and save the wallet ...
Closed with a carbon block UV water purifier to your kitchen faucet, you are almost ready to drink the water is much cleaner, fresher and tastes better than a few bottles of water, at a much lower price.
Only about 75% of Americans believe that the cost of bottled water 240-1000 times more per gallon of bottled water because they do not evolve for. Imagine how much money is being spent and how many empty bottles for the deposit landed with only a small amountreused.
People pay more for the bottles, transport the product to the same water each time you drink mineral water, you are doing serious harm to our environment. There are 600 million plastic bottles are produced, transported, destroyed the U.S. landfill every day. It takes three or four times the amount of bottled water only on the plastic bottle. Huge amounts of greenhouse gases in the manufacture of plastic productsBottles, and it is not, including how much oil is used and how much carbon dioxide is formed when water enters the store, once transported to a country to another.

The UV water filter runs on batteries, negating some of its usefulness. It also is borderline as far as purifying water with any turbidity in it.
Field tests conducted by survival experts have shown it to be only effective on clear water, and not 100 percent effective on oocytes and amoeba. UV filter devices are good for hiking, but for true survival water you are better served with a katadyne water filter followed by iodine or chlorine.
