I have no clue what a whirlpool water filter is bu I have triops and use spring water and they survive no problems! But I know one thing for sure you should not use a filter at all because the babies can get sucked into it.

Depending on the model. If you have a bottom freezer, more than likely it is either on bottom front or bottom back. If you have a top freezer it is probably in the back and if you have a side by side it is in the front. The front will have a small round turnable knob, behind it is the filter. In the back, depending on whether is is an add on or not it will be accessed near the water line. You can go to Whirlpool and find a manual for your particular refrigerator. If it is an aftermarket ice maker it will not be listed, but generally you can find them connected to the back water hose.

The water flows very strong through both hoses when disconnected but the cold water flows at a drip when just on cold cycle. There is no cold-cold cycle or I would just change the hoses which works as cold water fills quickly but then it changes to warm during the rinse cycle and I want just cold water. I see the wire filter, if that is what you call it but I don't know how to tell if it is clogged or how to unclog it.

Got this for our Maytag entry level side by side. The old one lasted for a little over 6 months according to the fridge timer. It makes enough of a taste difference to stop my wife buying bottled water. I mean, really, how can you review a water filter. It still leaves some of the taste of the water that regular water drinkers can tell varies from place to place.
It tastes just as good as those ‘purified’ brands with names similar to ‘Aquafiner’ and ‘Darsani’ but without the whole less pure than municipal supply stuff (allegedly). Will I buy again… yes. Do I still drink water from the sink… not anymore! So yeah, Amazon provided the water filter at a great price and the shipping was prompt and painless. Thanks Amazon
