What does installation of a whole house sediment water filter cost ?
DSC01209

I am buying a house with two full baths and one half bath. the master bath comes with jacuzzi jet.

The town water is yellowish, with sediment, and rust in the hot summer month.

How much does it cost to get licensed plumber to out in a whole house sediment filter for the water supply ?

You could do it yourself, if you are handy and can sweat pipe. A few guys at work have done the same thing. They made up a system with 2 filters. That way they could transfer the flow to one and when the filter got dirty, they close two valves and open the other two and use the second filter while they change out the first one to get it ready when the second one gets dirty. All it will cost is the 2 filters and 4 ball valves and some 90 deg elbows and a length of pipe. If this is a new house you may have the plastic pipe and that will make the job even easier.

If you get a plumber, I would guess about 3-500 in labor plus parts.

good luck with the new house.

Problems with Brita water filter: black sediment in water?
DSC01210

Changed the filter and there is still black sediment in my drinking water. Without the filter, there is no black sediment.

Any advice? Besides remove the filter (not an option, I have a baby)

Check the directions on the filter package. some filters require you to run a certain amount of water through the filter to get rid of the excess charcol. Also if you are still getting the same color of water, then I would return the filter to the store and get another one as it might be defective.

Good Luck :-)

What is the difference between a single element sediment filter and a Heavy-Duty Whole House Water Filter?

The single element sediment filter is configured with a tankless water heater and two disconnects. Is there any need for a whole house water filter?

A sediment filter only removes small particles in your water. You may want a whole house filter to move chlorine and other contaminants like VOCs, THMs, lead present in some older pipes & pesticides, etc.

When do I need a water softener /sediment filter combination?

Always with well water or in most rural areas. I would put a sediment filter on any water softener to make it last longer.

If your water is too hard put in the best you can find, it'll pay for itself.

20BB Big Blue Sediment Water Filter O-Ring?

I have a 20BB Big Blue Sediment Water Filter in my home and the rubber O-ring that fits around the top of the canister is old and stretched a little, does anyone know where I could find one? I could always try and take it to home depot and find one that may work, but I'm hoping that someone might know exactly where to find the same o-ring online, I've searched and searched and haven't found it. Thanks for your help.

Go to any Mom & Pop hardware store, not the big box stores like Home Depot or Lowe's. Might try the link below, also.

Which Water Filter is Best for Me?

There are many different types of water filters and it’s easy to become confused about what type of water filtration is best going to solve your specific water problem. Water filters can be placed into four different categories, sediment, carbon, reverse osmosis (RO) and distillation.

Sediment: This type of water filter is used to remove particulates from the water like dirt, oxidized iron, and other particles that are suspended in the water. A sediment filter acts like a very small screen that filters out the sediments in the water. Sediment filters are sized by the size of particle they remove and can be very small to take out very fine materials like silica or much larger for removing sand from the water.

Carbon: Carbon filters are the most common type of water filter and are a key component of virtually every home water purification system. Carbon is very effective at removing dirt and sediments from water, chlorine, and many other chemicals. Carbon filters have very fine pores that are able to trap the particulates. In addition, the carbon acts like a sponge and is able to absorb the chlorine and other chemicals. It is very important to change the filter as the manufacture recommends ensuring the effectiveness of the filter. This type of filtration is used primarily to improve the taste of water and in removing the objectionable odors, like chlorine.
