Whole house water filtration - experiences?
AQUAQUEEN® Mineral Water by R.O.Tack Water Technology

My parents moved into a townhouse community a while ago, and when I've gone to visit, I've found they have a lot of water problems. Aside from the pressure being low, which is merely an inconvenience, the water tastes and smells dirty and very fishy. Cooking with it alters the taste of meals, and using one or two blocks of ice ruins a whole drink. Sometimes even the dishes and clothes have a slight odour after being washed. Occasionally I've turned on the tap to see the water coming out brown, enough that the sinks have to be scrubbed to remove residue. The townhouse community was only built about 5 years ago, and it all runs the local water supply.

I've installed water purification on the taps, but I've recently discovered that it's possible to buy whole house filtration systems. I have no idea how to go about researching these. Does anyone have experience with them? How are they, cost-wise? Are they worth the investment? Do they require a lot of construction, maintenance, etc?
Any other opinions or advice about finding out why the water is so problematic, dealing with the problems, and/or water filtration would be appreciated.

yes whole house filtration is possible a water test is recommended to find whats wrong.usually supplys that serve more then 10 people or so reequire chlorine to disenfect water but if thats not the case here you can try a few things that will improve the quality thruout the house .a large carbon tank 2 cubic feet and replace it yearly cost could be about 300-500 a year.if thats not enough then there are some systems that are fairly costly but will work like a whole house reverse osmossis with ozone being injected ,break out the check book for this one and keep a spare room for someone to maintain it lol

Who has experience building a home in Mexico? Do they follow IRC 2006 standards?

Lot is in a gated country club community on a fairway overlooking the mountains. I want to be sure the builder follows IRC 2006 (formerly IRC 2003) international building standards. Some questions:

1. Do I need to provide a copy of this to the builder or will they already have it AND do Mexican builders already follow these?

2. How can I be sure all the I's are dotted and T's are crossed BEFORE they start building? (After all, I can't just assume that they'll put an electrical outlet every 6 feet, or that they'll use GFCI, or that they'll pre-wire the media room in the right spots - sounds like a HECK of a lot of things to think about!)

3. What is the least expensive whole-house water purification system?

4. Would my spouse (or my kids if she pre-deceases me) inherit the home and the lot (e.g. THEY are U.S. & Mexican Citizens, I am simply a U.S. citizen)?

5. Anybody have experience with mortgages there (e.g. interest rates, terms, conditions, etc.)?

I just started doing loans in Mexico. My broker is a lot more versed in them. He actually just bought a home down there. It wasn't new, but if you would like I can find out more information about it for you. Email me as much information about the loan you are trying to obtain as possible. Your DTI ratio, LTV of the home, FICO score if you have it, the city the home will be located in, If this is going to be a construction, land or home loan.

Hopefully I can help you in your current situation.

Clean water?

when my wife and I wash clothes we have noticed lately our white clothes are a bit dingy.Although the water looks clear, the shower head and other faucets around the house get crudded over with calcium colored like red mud. Our home is built on red clay, whatis this simpliest soloution to the problem? I have home depot coming next week about a whole house purification filter, but i really don't wanna put 3 grand into the solution.Any plumbers out there willing to share a tip? I live in Middle Ga too if any of you live around the area. Thank you

Brandon
and if your gonna tell me to buy something I need to know where to buy it from?

Please don't spend thousands on a softener or expensive reverse osmosis water filter. You can have a plumber install a simple sediment filter. If you want, you could install a sediment filter followed by a carbon filter if you have problems with an odd taste in your water. The least expensive but best brand is Cuno's AquaPure (http://www.aquapure.com/problem/).

We routinely install them with great success. In fact, I have the same problem at my home. Typically the suspended solids are caused by your water provider's storage tank running a bit low. When the massive pumps turn on to refill the tank, it kicks up sediment on the bottom of the tank.

Can someone recommend me a water purifier for well water?

I live in Minnesota (don't know if that really matters for this question, but just in case you need to know for regulations or something on research), and I need to get my water purified! I am spending about $37/month for 1 gallon jugs of drinking water. My shower ( i have 3 full baths), toilets, and sinks get yellow with rust stains . My laundry turns yellow, even when I use bleach! What kind of purification system can I get that will filter my whole house and give me an under-the-sink drinking water system? I prefer something that is going to actually work and save me money. Does anyone know of anything? Thanks!

I use a whole-house water purifier. It's initially expensive, but lasts for a long, long time once it's installed, and is set up to automatically clean itself with a weekly backflush. It does a terrific job of making well-water sparkling clean and very drinkable. One similar to mine can be seen at the below link. Good luck.

  • Whole House Water Purification: Supply Firm Stream Of Safe Water

Those who are not fond of how their water tastes or smells may be interested in whole house water purification to insure that every place from which water is drawn meets their safety requirements. Depending on the soil around a water well, the water can pick up the taste and odor of the sediment through which it passes on its way to the pump and into the home. In many cases, filtering can remove the particles floating in the water, but a whole house water purification unit can help rid the water of any unwanted smell or taste.

However, even if the water has no odor and a pleasant clear taste, there may be hidden microbes in the water that can cause a host of health issues. Instead of installing purification filters on certain taps in the home, a whole house water purification unit will provide clean water to every faucet. Even the bathtub and commode deserves to have clean water and it can also prevent some of the damage they suffer by using less than clean water.
