It rained a week straight so I turned my pump off. Now my pool water is all cloudy. I have already tried a shock treatment and it did not work. What should I do?

It might need to be backwashed? That cleans the sand in the filter and allows it to work better. Pool places also sell clarifier... get your Chlorine, Ph & alkalinity readings handy and give them a call.

I have started my pool this weekend but after 2 days, the water is still a little cloudy....

You didn't explain how sophisticated your pool system is. If it has a filter system, you can add a product called polysheen. This is a surfactant that helps the small particulate in the water agglomerate together to form bigger particles. The larger particles are then more easily filtered. This does not always work, in which case you have to use a pool flocculant. Usually this is a powder that comes in 5 or 10 pound conainers. You sprinkle this over the pool according to label directions. A flocculant is a particle that has been made to attract other small particles...kind of like a dust magnet. Using a flocculant though will require that you vacuum your pool manually afterward.

In the future, you can improve the clarity of the water by frequent filtering, and the use of a filter aid. Also frequent backwashing of the filter system will help. And finally, keeping the chlorine level at a minimum of 5 ppm will keep bacteria from growing. I usually keep my chlorine level close to 10 ppm and I never have algae problems.

And for the record....chlorine doesn't make your eyes burn. Incorrect pH of the water is what causes discomfort in your eyes.

The water is not opaque, we can see bottom. We have been shocking, clarinating, chlorinating, our hearts out. The chlorine level is normal to high. The PH was 6.8 last night, added some stuff to take care of that. It's still cloudy, and the kids are DYING to go in. Is it safe for them? Not to mention that 8 yo dd's BD party is tomorrow. Thank you!

If you chemical levels are where they are supposed to be then you either need clarifier or backwash your filter. The easiest way to get your pool ready for swimming is to bring a sample of water to a pool store. They test the water for free tell you what chemicals your pool needs. I spent a couple years trying to get the chemicals balanced in my pool and was a big pain in the but and went through alot of shock. I brought the water to a pool shop. They tested it and gave me a print out a list of what to buy and when to add it. Within 24 hours my pool was perfect and all I had to do was add some iqud chlorine once a week.

Pool is chemically in balance. Pool supply store tested water and said it's a "solar cloud" in the pool caused by the solar cover. Have used solar covers for over 20 years and never heard of a solar cloud. Any thoughts? Thanx a lot.

Yes, I had a similar experience. The pool place gave us chemicals, he told us to put in more Chlorine and gave us some kind of Algae stuff You may want to clean the cover as well.

We have treated the pool with algeacide, chlorine and shock as directed. We have had lots of rain so I decided to scrub the pool and vacuum it now it's cloudy..what do I do?

I wouldn't put anything in it. All them chemicals at once will make your pool cloudy. If it's a green cloudy then it's algae. But if it's a white cloudy i wouldn't worry about it. Just run the filter like crazy and it should clear up. There is this stuff you can buy that is called stop algae. It works really good especially when you get a lot of rain. Good luck
