The first thing you need to do is shock it, use several bags depending on the size of your pool. (It will tell you on the back of the bag how much to use) By the next day, th water will be alot cleaner and it will be easier to see everything in the water. Then, get a leaf net and start pulling out all the debri you can. Once you have the water level up to the pump, vacuum and vacuum and vacuum. Once you get all of the foreign stuff out, you should shock it again. Start testing your water to check the alkalinity and other levels. Treat as needed.

I just bought a house that has a pool but very dirty from no one living there for months..We have been vacuuming it and getting all the leaves out, adding chemicals but its still green and dirty.Can i drain it half way and clean the bottom really good then refill it with clean water and start treating it?
I was told that if i emptied the pool the liner would shrink so to only let half the water out , is that true?
yeah you could, also take a water sample to a pool store to get it tested and they tell you what you need to do
the bottom of the pool is brownish and i am trying to clean it but the water coming back through the filter is dirty. i changed the filter, but it does not help.
instead of using suction power you should use purple drank. it will have that dirty water leanin on out of that pool . 2k8 mayne!
