How to make green pool water go away?
Buildings

I have an Intex easy set pool that you get from walmart - we put it up yesterday and the fire dept came last night to fill it up with water. The water they filled it with was green and now I can't get it clear. I've used 5 bags of shock and algecide but nothing seems to help. What else can I do??

Stop using your shock. You are wasting your money. The first thing you need to do is way over chlorinate (sp?) Even though the shock says it has chlorine in it, for some reason it does not work with the green algecide. The chlorine must kill all the algea first. Pour 4 times as much chlorine in your pool as you need to have it properly balanced. Then start sweeping your pool with your pool brush. Try to do it like every three hours the first day, and then after each sweep backwash. You will need to put in fresh water often, but the back washinging gets the algea out of your pool. If you cant backwash every three or four hours then at least first thing in a.m. when you get home and before you go to bed. And leave your pool pump on 24/7 until it cleans up. My pool took about three days. Before you can upkeep your pool with algeacide you have to have your ph properly balanced, so make sure you are checking your levels of chlorine and ph. Keep chlorine level high throughout process until green goes away. It will, promise, just remember, sweep and backwash!

Nice Day For Fishing

It has a salt water chlorinator. I had a water sample tested which showed OK , just needed a small amount of acid. Over the past week the water has turned green and I cannot see the bottom of the pool.

geometry of love

I bought pool chemicals from walmart and not the water is green what do i do?

double up on pool shock, then leave it alone

sometimes we put too much into the pool and also, when the water temperature goes from warm to cool etc, problems arise. My pool was a 'lovely' pond green until I double shocked it

good luck

Buying foreclosed home with green pool water? What to expect?
Bronzeamento de Outono / Tanning autumn

Im wondering what if anything should I expect wrong? We think as soon as the water is out and pressure washed, and the water treated we should be fine. Any pool contractors that have dealt with this how much have you charged?
I live in florida and not to be funny but the water is very green for all i know there may be a dead body in there.....

Nina, before you pay anybody anything, understand this from me, a pool owner. The water is green. That means algae. How green says how much algae. I'm not there. I can't see it. But, you can get really ripped off by contractors if you don't know what's going on.
I am just north of Boston. So, obviously, my outside pool is not used during the winter. If I closed it right, which I did not do this year, my 24 foot round, above ground pool will be very green come spring. Five gallons of pool shock, also known as chlorine, will turn that water clear in just a few hours. Then I will have to use a device to get the leaves off the bottom.
You probably will have to do the same thing, or you can pay a contractor. To open up around here, I would probably pay about $150, maybe $200. Keep that in mind, because the pool is a luxury, and the prices they charge for luxury toys can knock you on your backside. But, there are other contractors that play fair, because they want your repeat business.
If there is anyway in which I can advise you, don't hesitate to shout at mslade@rocketmail.com, or wierdwillie@gmail.com. By the way, if you go to wierd willie, read my blog. You might enjoy. Best of luck on your new home.

Pool Heaters: Green Choices for Warm Water

Who says you can’t swim once the traditional swimming season has passed?  With a pool heater or heat pump, you can enjoy swimming in comfortable water for many weeks, or more, after your neighbors have already hung up the towel.  Additionally, when other swimming pool owners are waiting for the Spring weather to warm up so they can open their pools, you can be enjoying the luxury of a pleasant Spring time swim.

The most environmentally friendly options for warming your water include Solar Pool Heaters and Heat Pumps:

Solar Pool Heaters , which take advantage of the sun’s rays, are a “green” choice for warming your pool water.  Solar Heaters are efficient and inexpensive to operate.  When combined with a solar pool cover , also known as a solar blanket, your Solar Pool Heater will keep your pool’s water comfortable well into the cooler months.

A Heat Pump is another energy-efficient choice for heating your swimming pool.  Heat Pumps take heat from the air and transfer it to the pool water. This makes the heating process ecologically safe, clean, and cost effective.  Heat Pumps are easy to operate and can be used even in frigid conditions.

Why Is My Pool Water Green?

Pool water consists of five basic chemicals. The five basic pool water chemicals are Alk, PH, Chlorine, Stabilizer and water hardness. Your pool water can become green if you do not have your chemicals within the proper range or your pool filter system could not be running / working the way that it should.

The first thing you will want to do is to check all of your pool chemicals and make sure that they are with the proper range that they are supposed to be. If any of your chemicals are low, you should bring them to the proper levels as soon as you can. For instance if you have no Chlorine in your pool water then its not your filter that is making the pool water green its actually the lack of Chlorine. So make sure your pool water chemistry is correct before you start to think there is something wrong with your filter system.

The second thing you will want to check is the pool filter to make sure its doing its job. You first will want to back wash your pool filter and if you have a DE filter you will also want to add more DE into the pool filter after you backwash the filter. If your pump is not working or after back washing the pool filter you still have bad water pressure into the pool, you then could have a problem with your swimming pool pump or filter. You will have to then troubleshoot the pump and filter to see what is wrong.
