I just bought a 4 foot above ground pool I'm just not sure what chemicals to use to get the water clear, since I have rusty hard water.
Take a water sample to your pool supply store and they can tell what you need.
Poolcenter shows you how to test water for levels of calcium hardness, using a Taylor K-2005 test kit
What is this? What do I have to do to fix it?
Take a pool water sample to your local pool supply place for analysis. They can help you. Sounds like you have something in the water that can be fixed.
How do you know you have hard water??
You're welcome!!

Yes, pool water has chlorine and chlorine is harmful to teeth.
edit: Yes the levels in a pool are so low that the damage may take decades of exposure to be bad enough to make a difference but the damage does occur. My source articles speak to all forms of chlorine, not just the gaseous form.

we recently started filling our pool with well water. It is of a yellowish colour, we added a little chlorine thinking it would help as it filled up and it turned brownish almost instantly. How do we get rid of the chemical/ discoloration out of the water? Do we need to drain and start all over?
Take a water sample to a reputable pool supply store. They should test it for free and tell you what is causing the problem. Sounds like high iron content. They can also tell you what to add to fix the problem.
cloudy green, rusty brown water already used agle guard, shock-it-,baking soda& bleach, clearifiry, this water is city water.
Have already tested the Ph everything is perfect
And we have put $80.00 in chemicals for it and its still green and brown
If you have a pH kit and residual chlorine tablets, start by measuring the pH. If it is above 8 there's no point in adding chlorine (bleach) to this water until you've acidified it, that is , lowered the pH to around 6. You do this by adding a pool pH corrector (acid) until you have the right pH. Then you start dosing the bleach. Add 300 ml bleach) per M3 of water. The pump and filter should be running. Measure the residual chlorine after 1 hour and you'll probably find it's zero. Add the same dose again, wait an hour and remeasure the free chlorine. Keep doing this until you start to get a free chlorine value with the tablets. This will take some time because the algae will be consuming the bleach as it is killed..The more algae you have the more bleach you'll need and the longer it will take. Don't be impatient, you'll get there in the end and your pool will clean up.

12 Press Release » Blue Haven Profile
From its beginnings, launching first in business to build vinyl-lined aboveground pools, Blue Haven has grown to be recognised the world over as an innovator in the swimming pool and spa industry.
The first range of vinyl-lined aboveground pools were designed ‘strong enough to hold an elephant’. Built with JUMBO strength and JUMBO durability, Blue Haven’s elephant brand quickly became as well know as Vegemite or Aeroplane Jelly.
Today, Blue Haven offer the largest range of products and services in the industry and make the backyard pool a more affordable option than any other builder due to huge volume buying power.
Ray Awadallah founded Blue Haven Pools after working as a pool salesman over 35 years ago. “Pools were something new to me. I always lived in a unit and saw them as a luxury. After I started selling them, I could see the possibilities for a successful business by making pools an affordable luxury for hard working families,” he said.
...Best way to clean hard water deposits off of inground pool tile ...
Here’s the $10 safe solution if it suits you: "white" vinegar and a spray bottle. Spray on the vinegar and let it sit for about 5 minutes. A nylon bristle brush or green scrub pad helps work the deposits loose. Rinse well after use. Afterward a sprinkling of baking soda neutralizes any residual and takes the smell away. It is completely safe and can be used on the granite without harm. If you have extreme deposits don’t try to remove the minerals all at one time. Do it in stages.
A regular cleaning will keep the deposits at bay and only takes a few minutes about once every 2 to 3 weeks. Also excellent for plumbing fixtures, pots and pans, kitchen equipment. The key is catching it before it gets out of hand.
Good Luck!
