How to ensure swimming pool has enough water for the pool filter to function optimally when on long holiday?
Pool Of Water

I am going on a 2-month overseas holiday and am concerned that my swimming pool water might fall below the optimal level (through evaporation) for the pool filter/pump to effectively clean the water.

Apart from spending money to get a pool cover to reduce the rate of water loss through evaporation, I am interested to find out any other practical ways to automatically top up the pool (without human intervention) when I am away.

Tough one......can't you have someone top it off once a week when they are checking the house?

Good Luck!

How to clear rusty pool water?
The Queen of the Sea

My husband and I just filled our pool and to our suprise, our water is extremely rusty. The water is a dark orange and we can't see the bottom. We have added the chlorine and shock treatment, but with this being our first pool, we are looking for some guidance. We would like to be able to learn to do this ourselves. My husband is planning on taking a water sample to our local pool/spa store in the morning, but we were are hoping for honest answers and not someone just looking to make money. We would greatly appreciate any help!

If your water is this bad then your neighbors are likely to know about it. From your description it sounds like you have iron in your water but it suspiciously sounds like the pipe used to fill the pool may have been dedicated to the pool and may be the source of the rust or contamination. Possibly the pipe has a hole or crack in it and is allowing soil to come into your pool???

The pool supply place may help. I would pump the water out and check for a water delivery service to deliver "pool water" to you.

The question remains if the water is this bad what is your house water like?

You're welcome!!

How do you remove rust from pool water?
TKM-Ashgabat-0809-223-v1

We have jus topped off our pool to ope it for the summer. We have well water. We have had the pool water tested twice and all is good except it is green in color. Thre is no algae, slime or mold in the water an all we can think that it is is the rust in the water. Does anyone know what to add, or what to do to rmove rust from pool water? Thank you.

Get a full spectrum analysis done at your local pool store. Make sure they check free chlorine, total chlorine, combined chlorine, pH, alkalinity, hardness, total dissolved solids, metals (manganese, copper, iron), nitrites/nitrates, and phosphates.

Post the results back here or feel free to email them to me at robandliz1992@yahoo.com

Copper is what will give your water a greenish tint. You can use a metal sequestering agent to "lock" the metals in the water into a compound that won't stain the pool or hair.

Bacterial iron is a common problem with well water. It is a bacteria that feeds on iron. It used to be a fairly limited phenomena but has recently started a dedicated spread across the US and can be found in a majority of wells that didn't have it before. When these bacteria contact chlorine they are killed, but in dying they drop the iron out of their cell structure. Unfortunately the iron they drop is an organic form and this is the most dangerous to liners and hair as well.

Only a full spectrum water test will give us the information we need to get your pool sparkling clear.

Why is my inground pool water clear only when the filter is not running?
Portugal 2007 019

I keep my chemical levels in good range everyday. When the pool filter (cartridge) is running, the water is blue but not clear (cannot see the bottom). When I turn off the filter and leave it off for a couple of days or more, the water stays blue and I can see the whole bottom of the pool. So I just turn filter on only when I need to add chlorine. Then water isn't clear after that. Do I need to buy new cartridges?

probably dirt dust.ect it blows out into the pool and makes it dirty.Just change the filter

How do I keep my pool water cool?
229Lg.jpgC

I live in Phoenix AZ. The water in my above ground pool gets really hot in the summer. The pool water can get over 100 degrees in the summer and I am looking for a way to keep the water cool.

I was thinking of some sort of heat exchanger - a coil of 2" pipe that I would bury about 6 feet deep that the water would have to go through before returning to the pool?

Does anyone have any ideas? I have tried using an aerator and it just will not cool the water enough in the summer.

Do you know of something that will work?

a large range tent [white top] no sides, secured to the ground with tent stakes .you can use hosta's or day lillies to camaflauge rope and spikes.or get trees that grow 12 ft per year for shade, Remember trees need care and clean up. And tell the kids not to pee in the pool.

StreetMuse » POOL (NO WATER)

Pool (no water) highlights the excesses of contemporary society. A group of school friends catch up, only to witness the most successful of them dive into a pool – which has previously been drained.

The friends who met at art college are jealous of the success of one of their numbers who after going alone created conceptual work around death and AIDS. To the ire of her friends this has made her both very successful and rich.

The group once again come together at the home of their successful friend for a weekend of extravagant partying. One night the artist decides to jump into her pool which to everyone’s horror has been drained of it’s water, receiving serious injuries and falls into a coma.

Her ‘artistic’ friends, who happen to travel with recording equipment, decide to document their friend’s tragic decline into oblivion.

Much to their surprise, the artist begins to show signs of recovery and wants to view their intrusive work.

Written by British playwright Mark Ravenhill and directed by Adam Mitchell, the play explores the point in people’s lives where they realise that this is it for them. A disappointment some may feel to an unrealised dream and the harsh slap of reality.

Campaign Launched To Save Des Moines#39; Mt. Rainier Pool | The B ...

On the 34th anniversary of the opening of Des Moines’ Mt. Rainier Pool (Sept. 15, 1975), a campaign called “Save Our Swimming,” intended to help pass Des Moines Proposition 1, launched its website at www.mrpoolsos.com .

In response to tightening finances, Des Moines City Council members in July decided to allow residents the opportunity to put the pool on firm financial standing. Prop. 1 would create a metropolitan park district with the soul purpose of administering Mount Rainier Pool. It will be governed by a five-member board of commissioners that will also be elected on the general election ballot. The district would have the authority to levy up to 20 cents per $1,000 assessed valuation to operate the pool. With $280,000 the average assessment of a Des Moines home, the levy would be $56 per year, or approximately $1 per week.
