Have a shack next to a water pump, and the old pump there seems to be knackered. Have an old pool pump which I thought about using in place of it, but suspect it may not be suitable, as it would be constantly pumping water, and not sure what might happen with the taps turned off! Trying to find look around on the net for some tips (on even how to troubleshoot the existing pump), but there doesnt seem to be much about. Any Ideas?

Most Pool pumps are not designed to pump up, they are what is called a circulatory pump. You can buy a cheap pump for 30.00 on up at Harbour Freight tools, or you can have the old pump rebuilt.

My brand NEW pool keeps leaking. 3 different plumbers have tried to fix it but it still leaks.
Contractor says I can run pump as long as water is above jets which are way BELOW skimmer. I'm afraid to because I was always told a pump run with water is below skimmer will burn it out.
I'm in Belize where even the professionals don't seem to know much. Any pool plumbers out there?
If you have a valve to close the skimmer then you can circulate from the main drain only. This should do nicely. Lacking such a valve then don't run the pump. If you want to contact me I will help you run down the leak source. Too long to post here, though.

I have water running out of then backwash hose as the pool pump is set on the "filter " setting. I'm losing alot of water. How can I stop this leak.?
For now you need to get some sort of a rubber plug to plug up the backwash line or have a valve installed on the backwash line so you can close it off when in filter mode. It sounds like the spider gasket inside the multiport valve needs to be replaced.

My water pump cap is stuck and I can not open it. Is there a trick to do it?
Try spraying it with WD40 penetrating fluid to soften the corroded part then prey it open with ur tool, once u you get a quarter turn retighten it the then again try loosenturn again repeating repeating the same sequence until it has soften enough.

yes you can, i use a swimming pool filter on my pond and i use a sump pump to run it, just make sure you cover the intake so you don't suck up any fish
