I have back flushed my DE filter...I sweep constantly and run the filter for hours and hours, but it is still there I don't know where it is coming from, but it is definetly dirt...complete with little mulch particles in it.....
I did two things, moved the bird feeder, changing the main route the birds take over my pool and I bought a new head for my vacuum. Actually three, cleaned the rain gutters near the pool. Roof dirt would blow into it, the same stuff the birds drop, gee they're messy house builders!
The most important aspect of a safe swimming pool is it chemistry. Badly maintained Chlorine, pH, or many other chemistry levels may cause adverse ...
I have only put one round of chemicals in the pool ( 13 ft diameter, 13,000 litres) and want to purchase a salt water pump, should the water be ok after switching over or do I need to drain the water and start with fresh?
You want to convert your chlorine pool to a salt water pool?? If your water is relatively fresh you can do this easily. Get water tested or test your self for pH, free chlorine, Total Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness and CYA levels. Your chlorine generator maker should have recommendations as to what the above chemical values should be.
Yes, you can easily do this but do yourself a large favor, purchase a salinity test kit, usually strips that test salinity. The chlorine you have already put in the pool is now considered as salt and will offset the amount of salt you need to add to attain 3,000ppm or whatever the instructions say. At some time in the future after you purchase this item, the low salt light will come on. With the salt test kit you can verify salinity levels and see if adjustment is needed.
Your cyanuric acid, conditioner or stabilizer, will have to be increasedusuallyy to 50-70ppm and you will need to test this to know what it is before changing it.
You will also need sodium hypochlorite, pool chlorine, to establishh 3-4ppm of free chlorine since the unit only will produce what is lost in one day. It would take weeks for it to get your chlorine level up to 1-3ppm.
Economically, you would be way ahead to continue to use your pool as a chlorine pool since that is what you would be doing after converting to a salt pool, except for the salt it is a chlorine pool.
You're welcome!!
all the chemical levels in the pool are within normal ranges. is this water safe to swim in?
It's probably a metal reaction. Have a pool store test for metals and follow their advice.
Every body is different. It might.
The water was clear until all of the pollen started falling. Now it is green. We have been running the pump and backwashing today. Help a little. We have used three different kind of chemicals to clear it up but nothing has helped.
Go to walmart pool section and buy their Shock treatment!!!
Read the ratio per gallon, get what you need, put it in. We stirred it around and loosened all that was on the bottom with the brush, a couple of days and it was clear as tap water!!!!! Make sure your filter in your pump is clean. Mine was as green as a pond, and that worked!! Plus the floating chlorine tablets for the rest of the time.

Why You Should Keep Your Kids Out of the Pool - Parents - Families.com
I too celebrated the good news, but then irony had to rear its ugly head.
A few days ago while taking my daughter for an after-school dip I ran across a new study that found swimming in chlorinated pools may boost the odds that a child, who is susceptible to asthma and allergies, will develop respiratory problems.
According to researchers, chlorine irritates children's airways and the water in and air surrounding swimming pools exert a strong additive effect on the development of asthma and respiratory allergies such as hay fever and allergic rhinitis.
"The impact of swimming pool chemicals on the respiratory health of children and adolescents appears to be much more important -- at least by a factor of five -- than that associated with secondhand smoke," the study's lead author noted.
Great.
And here I thought it was an added bonus that smoking was banned from our swimming pool and clubhouse.
