When I connect my Kreepy Krauly to my pool, the water level in the pump drops by about 1/2 and air enters the pool via the return jets. I have changed the pump to no avail.
Have all the filters been changed? & What type of pool above ground, or fancier? The more added to the pool the more that it could be.

My pool water level usually falls close to the bottom of the skimmer. I also found that the pressure gauge on the de filter has water coming from under it. Is this normal, could this be the cause of my water level problem?
I assume it's a leak could this be from the pressure gauge?
You either have a leak or evaporation has started. You can do the bucket test to see if it is evaporation first. then go through the leak test procedures if it passes the bucket test. email if you are not familiar with the tests

It's probably a metal reaction. Have a pool store test for metals and follow their advice.

For some reason my pool is ready to overflow. The water leveler (float) must be adjusted, do I just bend it up or down? I am wasting a lot of water.
it adjusts like a toilet float set it lower for less water the easiest wat to set it is to put the pool at the level you want it to be then adjust the auto fill until it just turns off
in metal frame above ground pools is there a reason that the water level in a 48 in deep pool is only 42 in in a 15 ft pool and 38 in in an 18 ft pool. is this a structural issue.
Your water level should be approx. mid-point of your skimmer no matter what the depth of your pool is. Since there is little or no coping around above ground pools to keep the water in during swimming or playing in the pool, it is a good idea to have 6 inches of room for the waves to be contained as much as possible.
Just make sure you have a high enough water level to avoid air being sucked into the system due to the vortex created in the skimmer during pump operation and it should be fine.

Knowing the level at which your pool or spa is very easy in simple terms, for most pools you will find the best level is set at the middle of your skimmer throat.
Pool water to high :
If you allow the water in your pool to raise well above the centre of your skimmer you will prevent it from skimming the pool surface, this will result in the debris on your pool sinking to the bottom and making it dirty. Organic material in the pool does not only look unpleasant, it will help the growth of algae and will in some cases make the pool hard to balance. Plus if you have a vinyl liner type of pool, the water could get in behind and cause all sorts of problems.
