How do I clean a cloudy pool?

I have 13ft. x 6.5ft above ground pool it had gone green and I super shocked it clarified it and it cleaned up but it was still milky color so I took some pool water to the pool store and they had me buy some pool chem. but my freak'n pool is still milky. I've tested the water with testers (not the strips) and levels seem to be fine. Somebody PLEASE HELP me to clear this water up or should I just dump?

You need to make sure your filter is clean by either backwashing it if it is a sand filter or if it is a cartridge filter, taking the cartiedge out and hosing it off. Do this once or twice a day and it should clear up pretty quickly. The filter will clear up all those particles but you need to make sure the filter can pull more out by cleaning it.

looking for a pH tester?

i'm doing some "garage chemistry" and i need a pH tester for testing acids and bases ranging from 1 to about 12. would this one from ebay do the job??

how about this one:

I'm assuming you mean an electronic one, and not a bottle of universal indicator bought off ebay.

I'm sure it'll work, though if you're doing 'proper' garage chemistry you can make your own indicator with red cabbage water :)

edit: the second one looks the best as it is more accurate with it being a digital scale and has a wider pH range.

Chemicals for an Easy-Set pool?

I was given an Intex Easy-Set pool that is about a 15 foot diameter pool. It came with a pump and ladder and some old chlorine tablets. The owner said we needed to buy some type of chemicals and tester for the water, but all the answers I have been given are very confusing. Can someone please tell me how to set the water so it is safe. We are filling the pool now and my boyfriend needs to know what to buy now. He went to Wal-mart in search of some type of chemical pool kit and tester strips... we are hoping to be swimming by tommorrow. Any suggestions?

To sanitize the water, you can use the chlorine tablets left and put them into a chemical floater (since Intex pools do not have a skimmer), which will constantly provide a chlorine reading.

Also pick up some testing strips to test chlorine, pH, and alkalinity levels. Chances are your alkalinity and pH levels will be low (rain and other elements lower pH level). To raise these, pick up a total alkalinity increaser and a pH increaser. Be sure to adjust your total alkalinity first, then adjust your pH.

Every few days, be sure to test for chlorine. If the reading is low, add more tablets to the floater. The chlorine level is the most important aspect of water chemistry.

I hope this helps. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me at the information below.

above ground 8 x 30 pool?

I HAVE AN ABOVE GROUND 8 X 30 POOL THE WATER IS VERY CLOUDY. I HAVE ADDED ALGAESIDE AND WATER CLARIFIER, AND SHOCK TREATMENT AND CHLORINE.
I HAVE TESTED THE WATER AND THE PH LEVEL IS PERFECT BETWEEN 7.2 -7.5 BUT THE CHLORINE SIDE OF THE TESTER THAT SHOWS THE CHLORINE LEVEL TO BE AROUND A LIGHT YELLOW - MINE IS A BRIGHT ORANGE.. WHICH MEANS WHAT.. THE TESTER DOESNT TELL YOU WHAT TO ADD TO CLEAR UP THE WATER.
DO I NEED MORE CHLORINE OR DO I HAVE TO MUCH.
HELP.. DESPERATE TO SWIM..............

my pool does that a lot... just wait it out for a few days and it should clear up

also the bottom of the pool may need to be cleaned causing it to stay cloudy

Test pool phosphate levels to deter algae growth

With Labor Day approaching it signals the end of the summer pool season and pool owners dealing with water problems due to high temperatures. Pools are also at a higher risk this time of year due to algae.  Algae growth is a pool hazard in many ways.  Algae are a slip and fall hazard and they harbor bacteria increasing the risk of illness. To maintain an algae free swimming pool it is required to test for phosphate regularly.  Although sunlight and humidity are important to support algae growth, it needs the nutrient phosphate to cultivate. Phosphate levels present in water will establish how much algae can be grown. The greater amount of phosphate, the greater the potential for algae growth and severity of outbreak. High phosphate levels produce resistant algae and interfere with the sanitizing property of chlorine. Pool Check Phosphate (#481349) test strips by Industrial Test Systems,...
