plan to drain it once a week to water a rice field,, HOW LONG is it safe to use with out using chlorine,,,and if i use chlorine and other chemicals when is it safe to drain to a rice field
If i was you and you intend to drain it once a week, I would use a light chlorine clean at the middle of that week then the water will be clear at the weeks end and safe to use on the rice fields. I wouldn't put other chemicals unless it is for the rice .

Chlorine levels in a pool can test just fine, but too high or low a ph. level can allow bacterial or other growth. Your first answer is correct. Have your water tested at a pool supply place. It's usually free. They will recemmond proper treatment for your water. Also, it is imparitive to backflush your pump on a regular basis depending on pool usage, sunlight and water temps. Remember, NO body oils in the pool. Oils hinder the filter's ability to properly clean the water. Has it been quite a while since you have changed the filter sand? If so, ask your pool supply store how to take care of the problem. Good luck. Happy swimming.

I have seen several of the Olympic trials this week and saw the swimmers do this. Is there a scientific answer or is it just tradition or a good luck practice?
They just need to get a feel of the water and know what kind of condition the water is in before they jump in the water.

Its a 20KG pool, Aqua Rite salt system in Houston,Tx. I keep on having black dots, I scrub regulary, Salt is at 3300, the blades were cleaned twice in the last 2 month. The pumps are running for 7 hours/ day. Black spots are persistance specially in the deep. what could be causing it?
Could be the beginnings of black algae. Here's how to tell. Swim down to one of the spots and -using a good bit of pressure- rub your finger across it. If it feels slimy and leaves a "pencil streak" then you've got yourself a dose of black algae. It is difficult, but not impossible, to get rid of. I suggest you go to a pool store and ask their advice on the appropriate algaecide to use. Silver algaecide does wonders, but has to be used properly to avoid turning the entire pool to "ink"! Also invest in a good stainless steel algae brush, as you will be doing a lot of scrubbing. Black algae grows layer upon layer. As the top layer is killed it will concrete over. You must scrub that layer off to expose the next layer down. Sort of "unstacking" the layers. Hope this helps. By the way, if it isn't black algae e-mail me and we can discuss other ideas/solutions.

If you can get friendly with the local fire department, you might be able to get them to test a hydrant near your home. You could get them to fill at least part of your pool, and all it would cost you would be a few steaks if you're lucky.
Another alternative is to call a water supplier and ask if they can bring a tanker truck over. I'm not talking about a company that delivers drinking water, but a company that delivers non-potable water. If you're going to treat the water, there's no need to get drinking water to fill your pool. I don't know about Ithica, but there are companies that specialize in that work.
I think your best bet is the fire department, but if niether of these suggestions work, you might try a rain dance. Good luck!
