I am going on a 2-month overseas holiday and am concerned that my swimming pool water might fall below the optimal level (through evaporation) for the pool filter/pump to effectively clean the water.
Apart from spending money to get a pool cover to reduce the rate of water loss through evaporation, I am interested to find out any other practical ways to automatically top up the pool (without human intervention) when I am away.
Tough one......can't you have someone top it off once a week when they are checking the house?
Good Luck!
See how easy it is to replace and clean your currently swimming pool filter with products such as the Filter Flosser from Doheny#39; Water ...
my pool water is completely green and mucky but we dont want to waste water, will my pool filter filter it if we use it?
so i have a stabilzer pill will that helpit
It will to a point but, the filter will clog quickly. You will need to back wash it a lot.
The best thing is going to be drain the pool and clean it.
If your wanting to save water then you should not have a pool. Pools use a lot of water for normal operation.
I keep my chemical levels in good range everyday. When the pool filter (cartridge) is running, the water is blue but not clear (cannot see the bottom). When I turn off the filter and leave it off for a couple of days or more, the water stays blue and I can see the whole bottom of the pool. So I just turn filter on only when I need to add chlorine. Then water isn't clear after that. Do I need to buy new cartridges?
probably dirt dust.ect it blows out into the pool and makes it dirty.Just change the filter
We just set up our water slide that we bought used, we dont know how to attach the small, roughly 1/4", hose into the filter so water comes out at the top of the slde. CAN ANYONE HELP THANKS!!!!
I heard that someone drilled a hole into their filter. Is this a possibility? It sounds like you would just ruin the filter but I know someone that said thats what they did.
When new, slides will come with a kit that will adapt that 1/4" plastic tubing up to the size of a connection for a standard garden hose. In addition to that, you would usually use a tee that will adapt into standard 1 1/2" white PVC and give you the fitting for the garden hose connector. (Which is a double-threaded nipple that will adapt 3/4" pipe thread to 3/4" garden hose thread.) All this should be available at pool supply stores; all you would need to do would be to find a place in your plumbing to install it. In the return line after the filter is the best place to do it. (So only clean, filtered water sprays onto the slide.) The last part of the connection (to the ladder itself) is often done with a good quality garden hose.)
Here's a link to the slide tubing kit (eBay)

The dual-threaded adapter fitting was a common Polaris part, and the tee and reducer fitting (1 1/2" to 3/4 pipe thread) you should be able to find at a plumbing supply or Home Depot (or one of those places...)
Alternately, some people just use that slide tubing kit with a standard garden hose. (It'll be adding water to the pool, but it will only be on while you're using the slide.) A little simpler that way, but not the preferred method...
Abopve ground swimming pool. Water is turned white. Filter running 24/7.m Cleaning filter all the time. Fine film of silt??? on floor of pool but i keep sweeping pool and raising it off floor but hardly any difference.
It is chlorine pool(granular)
Wondering how to clean. Pool vacumm not doing anything.
It sounds like your pool Pump is not working. How old is your pool? I have owned an above ground pool and an inground pool and one thing i have learned about them both is, if you are maintaining Chemicals correctly and its still not cleaning, your pump is gone..I have also found out that an Automatic Chlorinator is the best thing you can buy for your swimming pool. Once a week all you do is add the Chemicals, usually the tablets, and it will do the rest for you. I had to hardly do any cleaning after I had it installed.
How to Winterize an Above Ground Pool | Bukisa.com
Following these steps to winterize your pool will ensure long lasting summer fun.
Things You'll Need:
winter pool cover inflatable pool pillow nylon rope/cord winterizing chemicals closed style (screw in) return inlet fitting Step 1Carefully brush down the vinyl pool walls and floor. To prevent possible staining from dirt and debris vacuum your pool.
Step 2To ensure proper water quality/chemistry you're better off taking a pool water sample to your local pool store and have it analyzed. They can recommend the proper chemicals and amounts for winterization.
Step 3Add pool winterizing chemicals and run the pool pump according to the directions.
Step 4Remove all the deck equipment (ladders, etc.) and any toys, tables, and chairs.
Step 5Clean the pool filter. For a sand filter, backwash it. Diatomaceous Earth (DE) filters should have their grids cleaned. Clean the skimmer.
...Something cute I fished out of the pool filter today » One Star Watt
I opened my parents’ pool filter today and there was this turtle, just barely afloat, with two resourceful friends riding the crown of her back. In the chlorine around them, dead frogs and insects bobbed belly-up, not nearly so lucky.

I saved your ass!
My mom said this scenario would make a good children’s story, so here goes:
Once upon a time, there was a baby turtle who lived in a back yard in Virginia. One August day, her dumb ass crawled into a swimming pool. Then some other dumbass animals jumped into the water after her even though it was and not a pond or lake or whatever made for amphibians.
Eventually all the animals got sucked butt-first into the pool filter.
Crickets and frogs swelled, then drowned, when they grew tired of treading water in this fatal lagoon. But not the turtle. The turtle didn’t know that her cause was hopeless - that she might as well be trying to swim across the Pacific Ocean - so she kept paddling in the inescapable filter. An exhausted baby toad swam up to the turtle’s buoyed shell.
