I have a 18 ft. x 4 ft. pop-up pool. We put it up this weekend. I added 1/5 of a gallon of algaecide as preventative maintenance, added 1 inch chlorine tablets in the cartridge filter, and I also used one packet of shock treatment to prepare the water. Are these amounts enough for a pool of this size? I tested the pH and I think I have to raise it. Any other preventative maintenance tips? Last year I had a heck of a time keeping it clear and want to make sure the pool doesn't turn out like that again. Thanks for your help.
Well first off you need to get exact readings of your water chemistry. Without accurate readings it's a guessing game. You can take a sample of the water down to your local pool store and they will test it for you, then post the results back here.
Unfortunately the way your question there isn't enough information to make a 100% accurate suggestion on what you need to do to the pool.

I Just bought my pool and fill it up it took 5 hours and I don't want to re-filled it and waste water. This is actually my first big pool and I have no clue of how to keep it clean and fresh. I am living in a hot weather area where it gets about 115 F degrees. Any tips or advice will be very helpful.
convert it to a salt water pool its cheaper no other chemicals needed, it will stay clean and clear
I would like to separate the DE out and water the yard with the rest. There is not currently a connection to the sewer so I have been draining it down the street. Its an in ground 12,000gal pool with skimmer and bottom drain and large DE filter
I have watered the side yard but it starts to get a buildup of DE leaving the soil white (or green!) which is why I would like to filter it out somehow. Pool is 30yrs old and grandfathered in to be legal to dump in the street but I would like to put the 300gal to better use. I've never drained the pool and keep the chlorine level low
Sounds like you're describing my pool, and I agree with the others: we water our yard with it and haven't killed anything yet!
I have an easy set pool from Wal-Mart and I was wondering if there is any way that I could make it into a salt awter pool. My Bro-in-law said that I could but I'm not so sure...
Yes. Intex makes a stand alone salt generator for their above ground pools. It will work for this pool as well if your filter pump is rated at 700 gallons per hour or more. You just need to plumb it into the return line from your filter equipment and salt up the pool to the salinity required by the unit to work efficiently considering the volume of your pool.

Does your office water have a metallic after taste from all the chemicals used to CLEAN it? Are you planning a camping trip to the mountains and don’t want to carry a water supply? Is your office or home using well water in an area known for pesticide and insecticide mushroom clouds? Some of you who visited our booth on Earth Day bought this filtered water bottle to take along on third world mission trips. Last week we had the Ech2o water bottle with filter with us in the Snowy Range of Medicine Bow National Forest in Wyoming. He scooped water out of every stream, lake, and puddle. Again, it tasted like fresh, clean, clear drinking water. It’s proven itself to be a great camping water bottle. The exclusive straw filter removes up to 99.99% of pollutants, and a lot of the biologicals, chemicals and dissolved solids. You can read the nasty list on the description for the Ech2o. We shot a video of our field test actually dipping the water bottle into the lake and drinking it.

And I'm a closet "one of those moms" when it comes to her in the pool. I secretly cheer to myself when she passes someone in her lane. Which she almost never does because she's way too polite. The girl in front of her in her lane at practice yesterday was much slower than Quinn. So Quinn would tread water and even flat out stop and hang on to the edge of the pool to give her some space. At the end of the hour they practice diving off the block or starting off the bar and have a mini race. Two kids go off at the same time and swim the length of the pool. Quinn crushed the other swimmer in the backstroke and got out of the pool to walk back to the blocks. As she walked past I said, "Awesome job, you won that one!" She tilted her head to the side and gave me a funny look. I said, "You beat the other swimmer with that back stroke." She said, "Were we supposed to be racing?" i don't...
