I live out in the Southern California desert and often thought to make an emergency water tank, but how? I know you can buy plastic tanks, but they are expensive to ship. I've seen metal round ones, but are there plans to make your own? Do I need a platform? How tall off the ground should it be? How to keep dirt out? How much water to hold for a family of 4 lets say for a week for drinking and cleaning? Do I need a pump too? I know thousands of people rely on water tanks so other then buying a fancy plastic tank, surely someone has directions on how to make it myself.

You can buy various sizes of plastic storage tanks which can be used for water storage and buried under ground. Just go to e-bay and search "water storage tanks" and you will get all sizes

You don't weld plastic. Best bet is to get two part epoxy and glue it. The two part epoxy is one of the strongest glues made and that is why you have to mix it from the two parts. They make one especially for plastics as well.

MAKE SURE the epoxy is fully cured before using the container. The directions will tell you how long to wait.

Need to know how to lay everything out and the equipment needed such as soaker hoses, etc. The plastic tank is a water storage tank I intend to collect rain water in but since that may not be enough, I could incorporate it to work with my rubber- lined fishpond so that it would be tank to pond to soaker hoses in garden.

Any ideas would be helpful.
I need details from below the house roof, where I will collect the rain runoff, all the way to the garden which is about70 feet away. I plan on using the 90 gallon tank to collect the rain runoff. The pond is across from the garden. All 3 areas are triangle from one another.

Put tank centrally locased on side of garden, On bottom of tank put a shorat length of hose, a shut off valve, another short length of hose that reaches the ground, a tee. On each side of tee a short lengh of hose, a tee for each row. ON center discharge of tee run a length of soaker hose length of row.
From pond you'll have to have a pump and hose enough to fill tank.
I would fill tank from faucet on house as it would be clean water. Pond water will probably have chemicals in it to retard algea growth. If you have fish in it (the pond), the water could be used as fertilizer. But you would be filling the pond all the time when you drain out water to fill tank for garden.
You would still have to put chemical in pond all the time for algea if yoyu do that.
If it rained all the time or at least every other day it would be a wonderful way to water your garden!

Application is solar hot water. CPVC pipe melts at @~170 degrees F but there is 30-feet of copper before it transitions to the plastic CPVC. Outside ambient temperature is 60 to 85 degrees F. What is the optimum temperature to set at the discharge side of the solar hot water storage tank so that it will enter the CPVC below 170F?

It seems to me the optimum would be to insulate the copper pipe and adjust the flow rate to keep the temperature to less that 170F, I don't see the point in collecting the energy then throwing it away. Rereading the question, I see you say tank, not collector, what is the end use of the water? can you mix some cooler water with it? that way, instead of throwing away heat, you have a larger volume of the < 170F water.
