Our home warranty just replaced our gas water heater today. But we still paid $500 (labor+ permit+haul away)
The brand is American Standard 40 Gallon tank. I would like to know if this is a good brand and if it is energy star product. Thank you.

Our home warranty paid out $400 and I paid $500 to the water heater company which hire by our home warranty.
American Standard is a decent brand so you should be satisified with the product. As for the price, it depends on where you live. The water heater itself probably costs 300-400 bux. The plumbing company is not in "cahoots" with the warranty company. the warranty company will not cover upgrades such as new shutoff valve, new water flexes, new venting, etc. That is where your additional 500 bux comes from. Is it overpriced? Probably so but like I said pending on where you live labor costs vary. Do I think you got ripped off? Probably not. If you didnt have a warranty company then your price for a new heater and installation would probably have been around 1300 so paying 500 dollars is not too bad. I work in the DFW area and these prices are common. I'm guessing that you live in a major city or on the outskirts of one. In the country of course would be a little bit cheaper. Corky, not taking anything away from him, probably owns a small business and doesnt have as much overhead as a bigger plumbing company. This is why his prices would be much cheaper than a larger company. The water heater plus parts were probably no more than 600. So, be thankful your warranty company covered the water heater. good luck

As an author and publisher of three books on the water supply infrastructure, I wonder how much the American public understands about our critical water supply infrastructure. If the public was more aware of the issues involved would that force more reasoned debate and discussion of the solutions?
I think they know whats going on, but dont understand the importance of water conservation, and dont really no what it is like to be affected. The only way you could reinforce the importance of water and conservation is to take away many of the small things it provides in our life.

Our 8 year old gas 40 gallon water heater has not been reliably providing enough hot water lately and the repairman has been out a few times and is mystified. He offered to give us a brand new "American" 40 gallon water hater for $480 installed. Are these good water heaters?
A lot of people at work love their tankless water heaters, but I understand that I'd have to spend hundreds of bucks just to upgrade the gas lines to accomodate one of these.
Tank or tankless? American or another brand?

Gas or electrical? Drop by Lowes or Home Depot and check what they are selling and what they have for "sale" to get a better idea. Also what they sell the most of as that is probably the best answer.

Most Americans make their words shorter and lazier, so water got turned into wah-dur somewhere along the way.
Move your tongue higher up into the roof of your mouth, instead of touching it to your teeth like you would when you say the t sound.
Or just say water as fast as you can :)

The American Water Spaniel
The American Water Spaniel is a active, muscular dog of medium size. These dogs stand about 15-18 inches at the shoulder and weigh 25-45 pounds.
