I need a valve that will allow the water to flow thru with little pressure, and will prevent the water from flowing backward.
You need a small sub-pump with a backflow valve installed on it

I live in a very dry area in eastern montana and have an artesian well as my only water source. problem is, in order to water my pasture, lawn and garden I have to buy irrigation water from the river, ditch it, hold it somewhere, pump it into a hose myself, moss and all, which will plug it, then I unplug it, big pain in the butt, and costly. it's the minerals or alkai (???) in the artesian water is what kills the grass/plants, to my knowledge. (and it does, I killed my whole garden last year with the water, and a good portion on the grass) I have never heard of anyone filtering it or heating it or anything else to make it usable to the plants, has anyone tried? ideas? thanks!
In eastern Montana it most likely is the alkali that killed your plants but those other folks are right. Get the water tested then you will know what kind of treatment you need to use.
A filter system for the river water may be more economical.

I don't want to replace the well
Please express you views, opinions and the reasoning behind them on this issue.
It usually is treated but for taste and to remove or reduce the level of salts in it. If you mean should humans use it, then I think the answer is yes in moderation and to an extent that we dont reduce the water table or use it faster than it can be replenished naturally.

COURAGE FOR TODAY: The Town#39;s Artesian Well
Their Source of Water
Was Ever Flowing
I've said, in many other articles, that I loved to visit my Grandmother's small hometown in middle Georgia. I have many memories as a young child and still think about those times often. We didn't go there much--maybe 2 or 3 times a year, but each time was an investment of memories that stick with me even today.
One unusual landmark of the small town was a community Artesian Well. As a child, I really didn't know what an Artesian well was, but I later learned it was a natural source of crystal clear water that flowed to the surface without the need of a pump. It is different from well water in that the water constantly flows, as opposed to having to lower a bucket down into a well to retrieve water. The Artesian Well was housed in a small brick building. A small metal pipe protruded from the ground and through the wall of the brick structure and it was out of this pipe that the water flowed.
...Find a Spring for the Best Water Ever — Set Higher Standards
I have been reading up on water. First a great book, “Your Bodies Many Cries for Water” by Dr. B . Then a bunch of videos from Daniel Vitalis about the importance of finding good and clean sources. Our bodies are over 70% water. While many of us spend plenty of time worrying about what we eat, we are far better off first thinking about getting access to and drinking the best water ever!
I am lucky to live in Bellevue, WA (near Seattle) which is home to some of the cleanest water around. In fact, our tap water is rated to be among the best municipal water in the country. I also live in a fairly modern urban environment – so don’t worry too much about rusty and old pipes or other potential issues in getting water from source to tap.
However, the water is treated with Chlorine and other things, and there is also the potential structural impact that overt processing has on water. If you have not checked our Masaru Emoto’s work, you must. His book “ Messages from Water ” will transform the way you think about water – and your own way of being. Water that has been processed, stored and taken out of its natural environment is spiritually and energetically dead. If you don’t buy the whole “spiritually dead thing,” that is OK…the scientifically proven health benefits of fresh and clean water is enough of a reason to care.
