I need help with failing community well water system - water holding tank as solution?
Haiti

my cabin is located on a dry ridge (no hope for a well) and accesses water from a community well sys that is sometimes down for days with leaks, etc. I need at least a 5 day backup of water. Idea: add in a water holding tank. Water supply pipes are at bottom of lot, I would need a pump to get it up the hill into my tank, then out of the tank into the pressurized water tank and into the home. I am estimating a 1500 gallon holding tank (rental cabin with 4 bedrooms) to carry the capacity for 5 days. here are questions: 1) what kind of alarm could alert me that the water holding tank is not longer pulling water because the community water supply is out of order. reason for need - no one would notify me and I do not want to burn out the pump. 2) What kind of pump is best to pull water up hill into holding tank? 3) How would I keep tank from overfilling due to freezing potential during winter? 4) any other issues with this inline installation? thanks!!!!

I assume you are getting water to the cabin, when the community system is up and running, and you do not have to pump it.

You need to have a reserve supply of water for when it is not.

Either you have to use a pump and a pressure tank or not.

The difference in elevation between the water supply pipes down below and the cabin is less than about 20 feet, or more.

If the elevation is too high, you will need to pump up from down below, rather than suck it up the hill.

If the community water system supplies sufficient pressure when it is up and running, why would it not be able also to fill a tank at the cabin elevation? You could throttle the tank fill line so it didn't rob pressure from normal domestic use. A float valve could control the maximum level.

If you have to pump water up, the pump could be powered through a contact on a pressure switch, which senses community water pressure. Insufficient pressure--pump doesn't run.

how to make community pool water does not contamination. if contamination what is method to make it clean aga
Clean Running Water Project

too crowde people and kids at community pool make the water dirty. the managers decided to run filter pump 24 hrs to make it clean. I disagree because the motor will broken in the long run. I think there are the other ways to make the water is not contaminatione. Please hellp, thanks.

If the chemicals in the water are being maintained and it's still getting dirty then your only option is running the pump so the filter can work. The motor will break after a certain number of hours of operation, but that's why they make them so they can be replaced.

What would the best places to advertise for a small community Water Carnival?
Clean Running Water Project

I live in a small West Texas town that presents a Water Carnival annually. I am trying to get the word out about it and stir up some interest but I am not sure of where on the web to send the info to. I need suggestions please.

If it's an annual event, it's a good idea to set up a web page / site about it. There are plenty of free web hosting sites about (though free = they place lots of advertising on your site), most of which offer simple templates so you don't need to know HTML to put information online. I'd recommend Yahoo Geocities web hosting (http://geocities.yahoo.com) as the number of ads aren't too bad.

Then it's worth seeing what community web portals / calendars are around locally that you may be able to advertise on for free / link to your own site. Try doing a search in a search engine for something like "texas community calendar", or "texas community portal" etc, and also try your town's name in the search engines too.

  • Well Water?

I have bore water, it comes from sand 100 or 300 feet down depending what bore is in use. It is tested pure but the ph is wayyyy blue (on a fish water testing kit) I am considering bottled water because of the alkaline ph and the fact I could never keep fish more than a couple of years. As there is no rain, rain water is not an option, neither is town water. for me. you need to have it tested first. as long as the minerals are in a healty range and there is not to much arsinic, floride and radon present you should be fine. The county you live in should be able to test the water for you and provide you with a read out of all the things in your water. Do you know if it is a limestone well? or what the base rock is? If you do it might help in your decision. Also what are you waterlines made of are they updated PVC or are they old iron, lead and copper pipes? If the pipes are old you need to not only have the water in the well tank tested but the water that comes out of your tap tested...

Mayor calls summit on water crisis - GloucesterTimes.com ...

Ten days after the state's Department of Environmental Protection hit Gloucester with a boil-water mandate — and a day after city officials confirmed that tests taken Friday showed the presence of coliform bacteria in more, not fewer, water samples — Mayor Carolyn Kirk is set to huddle this morning with a panel of officials and water-quality experts to chart the city's next step in trying to bring Gloucester's water up to drinkable standards.

In a statement issued yesterday, Kirk said she will be meeting this morning with representatives of the city, local state lawmakers, the state's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), United Water Co., and Camp Dresser McKee, Inc. to try to "assess the current water emergency, and determine the appropriate course of action as we move forward."

United Water is the city's contract operator for the city's water treatment plants; Camp Dresser McKee, Inc. is a consulting firm with expertise in water systems, and the author of a 2006 study that outlined the city's long-term water treatment needs.
