How much would it cost to dig a water well in west Texas?
Takin' a Drink

This property has an old well at about 30-40 feet, but the water isn't fit for drinking by livestock, and it's not fit for much else either. Could I get better water going deeper? I can provide more details if needed.

yes @ 1000 ft the water would be ok. may still need a filter on it. I would say around $6000 +.

What type of pump is good for a water well that supports a business in west Texas.?
283

I plan to build a business on my land and need a well. The depth is probably 400 feet. Not sure about gallons used but it would be fairly high. Power for the pump isn't a problem.

I would suggest you ask a couple of water well drillers in the area what is the best. I find this is the type of equipment where local practice is a good measure of the best for the area.

Depending on where you are in West Texas, the distance to a good supplier for repair and parts might be a goodly distance and having a dependable supplier may be more important that the actual pump you buy.

I will be a single person living in an apartment in Austin, Texas. I will take a shower every day and wash 3 loads of clothes once a week. About how much will I pay in water?

My water bills average 40-60 in the winter months and 80-100 in the summer months, but I have a large house. I have never had to pay a water bill in any apartment I have ever lived in here in Texas.

Has anybody been to Mustang Island in Texas, is the water clear?
Windmill on Rig Tower

Want to go to Mustang Island in Texas possibly. But only want to go if the water is clear. Please let me know the experiences you have had there.

My family went, but it was years ago... Gosh, now that I think about it, it was like 16 years ago! Wow! I feel old!

Anyway, what I remember of it was getting out of the water and being entirely covered in seaweed! My best friend and I had to take turns pulling it out of each others hair! After that we spent our time in the pool!

I don't know if things like that change or not, or depend on the season and what have you, but that experience was pretty gross!

    Texas Lies

Texas Lies A short story by Steve S. Saroff

    When I was 19 I was naive.

At 19 I was strong. Able to take care of myself. Able to walk all day through the desert. Able to go without food and sleep. Able to get by. When I was 19 I had been alone, a bum, for two years.

My one time in jail had been in El Paso, in the county drunk tank. When they let me out I decided to walk east and not try to catch a ride. I had no food and no money. that’s how I was though — and there I was, walking into the desert. Summertime too.

I walked along the Rio Grande, through farmland and wasteland. There were fish in the river, yucca grew in clumps, I stole onions from the planted fields. I drank the muddy river water, I swam in it, I watched it flow by as I walked. Sometimes the lights from my fires would shine across the river over to Mexico, and sometimes light from other fires would shine across to me. I would shout then, “helloooo,” and a shout would always come back. It was a good time.

It has been said "Whiskey is for drinking and water is for fightin." In Texas, water is our most valuable resource, and has become increasingly scarce with our State's population explosion. Naturally, ownership, control and use of water carry tremendous legal and financial implications. Meanwhile, multiple layers of governmental regulation have made acquisition, development, marketing, use and transmission of water in Texas increasingly complex. This site contains the musings of a water lawyer. Surface water –Also known as “public” or “state” water.
