I live in the country and have my own water well. The well is about 6' deep and 5' wide (both ways). The walls are just regular cement block. My old lid to cover the well is worn out. Does anyone have suggestions on what to use to replace the lid, or where to go to get one? I can't find anything anywhere. For something so common, I figured it would be easy.
If I make one of wood, what is recommended to seal it to keep out rainwater?
Make a new one out of wood. That's what I have

My well casing cover blew off the shaft. When it blow off it sounded like an explosion. What caused this to happen? My pump is still working. I have running water and pump is holding pressure.
Thank u for all your help

I am thinking of having a garage built. The problem is the only location where I can put it is where my Well and Well cover are. Is it possible to just build around it? Would it cause any future issues in case something were to go wrong?
you bet, what if you had to pull up the pipes due to rust, do you go through the roof. They are 20' lengths unless you are using flex plastic, then its just a little trickery to do the job. But moreover if I had to put my garage in that area, I'd place the well in the corner of the garage and make a side outlet for the other side of the pump so the wall became a door or french door at that. That would give you all the room you needed to do the work on the pump and expand the size of the garage for your personal use...maybe 24 x 30 or even lgr

"well, theoretically, one drop of water will cover the world if you spread it real thin." - kent hovind
What does he mean by spread really thin? Does he mean that if it were stretched out?
Because, if he means what I think he means, I don't understand how he could possibly believe this.
I suck as physics, but even I can't believe that anybody would believe this.
This doesn't even seem like a miscalculation, this just seems like a deliberate lie.
On beating a dead horse ....
Carrying on from Arlington D - and assuming his estimates are reasonable, this works out to a layer that is not only thinner than an atom, it is about a billionth the diameter of a proton! A layer of matter of that thickness is simply not possible.
Mathematically, you can have an infinitely divisible volume that could be spread infinitely thinly over any finite - or infinite! - surface, but since we have known about atoms - one could argue that even Aristotle had an idea about this, but Einstein finally put the idea on solid ground about 100 years ago - we have known that this is not really the nature of the material world, and in that world where atoms and molecules exist as the most fundamental aggregate of matter, you can no longer consider it to be infinitely divisible. And in THAT sense of things, you cannot spread water 'forever' and you certainly cannot spread a drop to cover the planet.
How much will it cost, what does the well look like because it wasnt seen during the home inspection, is it a code violation to have one in your home, etc?
gio to a masonery supply that sells to the public a buy a well cover. you may want to measure the opening first. thenbuy a bag of mortor mix cement and cement it down. Are you connected to town water or is this well your source? If it is your source do not cement it down. As far as being in violation I would have to say it isn't because of where it is. now if you have any questions as to its lagality you should call the water dept. of your town or city then take the necessary moves to make yourself legal or do nothing.

Lemon Lime Sorbet | The Salty Spoon

I offer you a pair of recipes to answer the age-old question “oh my goodness, what on earth was I thinking buying all of these lemons and what the hell am I going to do with them?” Oh Costco, how often you force me to summon the wellspring of my kitchen charisma so that I may flick it, liturgically, on the remnants of your bounty lest we commit the sin of food waste.
Not that I’m complaining.

This is a sorbet with two faces - think of them as fraternal twins. The first twin is pleasant, fun, easy-going. Interesting, but never controversial. She’s the kind of gal you can invite to any gathering with confidence that she’ll probably get along with most everyone. She would always be there to help you move, but probably wouldn’t be up for a spontaneous trip to Wendover. Her sister, on the other hand, is one of those people who is consistently described as a “firecracker” and with good reason. She is always intense, always the one ordering another round of shots and challenging you to a taco-eating contest. She probably owns leather pants.
...Hot and cold moves of cyanide and water | Science Codex
RICHLAND, Wash. -- Scientists have long known that molecules dance about as the temperature rises, but now researchers know the exact steps that water takes with a certain molecule. Results with small, electrically charged cyanide ions and water molecules reveal that water zips around ions to a greater extent than expected. The findings improve our understanding of a chemical interaction important in environmental and atmospheric sciences.
"One of the cornerstones of Department of Energy nuclear cleanup missions and climate research is a fundamental understanding of water and ions, one of the most common chemical interactions in the environment," said chemist Xue-Bin Wang of the DOE's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Washington State University.
"We've developed a new instrument to probe the dynamics of ions in water," Wang said. "And we've combined theory and modeling to make sense of those experiments, giving us a deeper fundamental understanding of what is happening with this ubiquitous molecule – water."
