Does anyone have any comments on water contamination due to industrial wastes in electronic city?
uv.industrial.water purify

I am planning to buy a site in the area. But concerned about the water contamination due to industrial wastes. Read about EPA. What is EPA? and how do i find out what is EPA's take on above.

The EPA is the environmental protection agency. Most countries have a environmental protection agency. In Australia the EPA is now call DECC department of environmental change and conservation.

The EPA is responsible for managing fines, notices, permits etc.

Generally when a site is contaminated the previous owner has a responsiblity to rehabilitate the site to it's previous conditions or cover the costs of rehabilitation. I'm not sure on the exact details of electronic waste management.

Contaminated land must be registered on the contaminated land register. (CLR) is a register of proven contaminated land (‘risk’ sites) that is causing or may cause serious environmental harm. Maybe you can ask if the land you are going to purchase has been listed on the register.

check out Managing Land Contamination Planning Guidelines:

I know it's for NSW but most evironmental protection groups will have similar standards.

Don't rely on hearsay from strangers. Contact the EPA and see what they have on this site. They will have all the info you need.

Does water contamination effect all of our food sources?

In science class we learned how water contamination is spreading these days. Does this effect our food sources? Because to wash vegetables and most of our food, we use water. Don't they absorb the water somehow? Because we absorb water through our pores when it rains, takes showers and baths.

Hmm water contamination in developed-countries...recently i gotten sick from drinking the tap water -.- in developed countries the water is treated with chlorine in trace amounts to ward off certain microborganisms which thrive in water, but sometimes contamination of the water even with the safety measures will make water dangerous to consume..Vegetables if you eat them raw might pose some risks but unlikely, because where water seeps in is usually the leaves of vegetables...assuming u will only eating vegetables raw and the vegetables are all leafy, even if you eat it you will not likely get sick because your body's immune system can combat foreign pathogens very effectively. Assuming most people will cook their vegetables it will pose no problem. Water absorption into vegetables mostly happen in the roots of vegetables, and absorption usually takes place in roots, the contaminants of the water probably will not effect the growth of the vegetables, unless the contamination contains pathogenic microorganisms which are lethal to vegetables......but chances are they wont be...hmm hope that helps

Will choloronating well water remove toxins/contamination permenently?

About to buy the house and the first water sample came from the inspector, contamination levels were at 2000 (10 is acceptable). We chloronated the well and received a second sample of 24. We are thinking about re-choloronating a third time. The house has sat vacant for a year. Is there a possibility of well contamination or is this just a result of the well sitting un-used for so long?

Chlorination kills bacteria, etc., but does nothing for chemical contamination.

Can my cat get rabies from food or water contamination?

A raccoon drank and ate from my cat's water and food bowls. Shortly after witnessing this event, my cat disappeared for about 4 or 5 days. This was a very unusual occurence. He's reappeared, but is acting peculiar. He's usually very affectionate. He now seems less so, and is a bit more skiddish that normal. No bite wound has been detected thusfar. Should I be worried? He has only had one rabies shot in the 5 years that we've had him.

Rabies can only be transmitted by a bite or saliva getting into an open wound,it also can be transmitted via the eyes.

  • Study finds water contamination near sites in Wyoming where ...

Government scientists have for the first time found chemical contaminants in drinking water wells near natural gas drilling operations, fueling concern that a gas-extraction technique is endangering the health of people who live close to drilling rigs.

The Environmental Protection Agency found chemicals that researchers say may cause illnesses including cancer, kidney failure, anemia and fertility problems in water from 11 of 39 wells tested around the Wyoming town of Pavillion in March and May this year.

The report issued this month did not reach a conclusion about the cause of contamination but named gas drilling as a potential source.

Gas drilling companies say the gas drilling technique called hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," is safe, but opponents contend it pollutes groundwater with dangerous substances.

Evidence linking gas drilling and water contamination would set back development of a clean-burning fuel promoted by the Obama administration as crucial to the future of U.S. energy production.

Tensions Rise As Raspberry Falls Water is Contaminated Again ...

After one of the communal wells in Raspberry Falls was closed down again on Tuesday following a spike in fecal coliform bacteria—bacteria associated with human or animal waste—Supervisor Sally Kurtz (D-Catoctin) held a meeting Wednesday with residents and officials from Loudoun Water, the Loudoun County Health Department, the state health department’s Office of Drinking Water, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the Loudoun County planning commission.

Officials assured residents that the water that reaches their homes is perfectly safe and that the contamination was found in the community’s raw water source before it was treated.

Samples taken from Well 1 on Sunday found that levels of fecal coliform bacteria in the raw water were as high as 200 counts per 100 milliliters. It is Loudoun Water’s protocol to close the well if levels exceed 100 counts per 100 milliliters as a precautionary measure.  The same well had to be shut down in May. This time around, residents were upset that during the time it took from Sunday to Tuesday to get the results back, their water was still being pumped from the well before it was turned off.
