We use well water. Recently our pressure tank quit working and we had to replace it. Now we have calcium deposits in the main water line coming into the house. This calcium is clogging up our cold water line and the faucets in the house do not work good. The hot water comes into the house really good, but we are concerned that we are getting large deposits of calcium in our hot water heater. What can I do to resolve this problem?
You could install a filter at the pressure tank but you'll have to change the filter out at least once every three months maybe sooner, maybe longer depending on what type of filter you install. The better solution is, of course, more costly but definitely better. Install a water softner by your pressure tank. This will take care of much of your problem but I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. Good luck!

Last night there was no water loss. This morning, despite priming the pump umpteen times, the prime would not hold. We had a plumber look at it. He found water being pumped from the water location and pooling around the outside of the well. Is there any other process than digging the whole line up and replacing it?
You have to dig up the spot where the line is broken not necessarily the entire line. The repair would be determined by what kind of pipe is buried.
I have a heavy vinyl one inch diameter water supply line that runs from the well to the house for a distance of about 50 ft. I have extremely hard water, and I believe there is a build-up of iron in the line as pressure has diminished. Will Iron Out work? Any other ideas? I'm trying to approach this from a conservative stand-point as I don't want to dig-up my yard and driveway.
Its not the vinyl pipe. Build up won't stick to that type of pipe(usually rare cases do happen) Hard water typically builds up really bad in galvinized pipe. If you have galv pipe somewhere on the run thats probably where the problem is. Using chemical such as Iron Out or CLR is not a solution You have to replace the problem pipe. Try and figure out exactly where the problem is. If you've isolated it down to that strech it probably has to do with the well or piping next to it. Otherwise try working your way down the line inside to see where your losing pressure. Clean the mesh filters on your sinks right there on the end. Clean your showerheads with CLR(or Iron Out). Either way I highly advise you against putting Iron Out down that line, or really digging it up. Look at one end and you'll know right away if that pipe is the problem cuz you'll see the buildup.
Well is 25 years old and 6" in diam. A few weeks ago I got dirt with water but now is find. Just lots of air and water bubbles in water tank after a flush. Could it be air leak in presser tank ? After all is 25 years old !
Could it be a calapse vain in well ?
Could it be a bad check valve ?
Could it be a like on line inde well ?

25 years is not too old for a well. 6" is pretty standard for a domestic well (home). Getting air in the line is not normal. Air can come from several sources.
1. Pump is set to high (water table has dropped). Are you in a drought area? Check water level. Do you have the drillers well report? There is a static level for the water and how deep the pump is set. See if the static level is still the same. You may be lucky to use a small fishing weight with monofiliment fishing line - measure different lengths of line and drop in vent hole to determine if the pump is set deeper than the water level when the pump is operating.
2. Leak or hole in the line. Air is sucked in when pump is operating. Check all lines for leaks.
IF NONE of these - call a well repair or pull the pump to start replacing the line. If the line to the pump is PVC, you may be able to pull it yourself. Also, f it is pvc it is not likely to have a leak but remember Murphy's Law.

Water is "pulled" up thru the sand because of surface tension. It is the same reason that, if you dip a piece of paper or cloth into a glass of water, the water "wicks" up and, very quickly, climbs up higher than the surface of the water.
