I had a well water test fail for high of a sodium content in my water. I had a test done about 18 months ago and there was no issue with sodium content. Is the water softener to blame? It seems to be about 10 years old (I have owned the house for 5 years). I am trying to avoid the cost of a reverse osmosis system. Thanks.
You know that water softener is generated periodically by sodium chloride (salt) solution as follows : 1- back wash , 2- regeneration by salt solution , 3- rinsing by water , 4- operation for normal use .
be sure that this cycle is performed correctly , 1st step check condition of back wash outgoing water ,it should be contain some mud and turbidity with dark color in the beginning , until becomes clear at the end of back wash period ( if not done so ) you have a problem with softener valves or controller of valves . 2nd step check salt solution tank ; is it completely suctioned to softener ? 3rd step check the outgoing rinsing water , in beginning it is bitter and gradually becomes normal , and ready for use .
I hope this points can help you to solve this problem

Perfect for the home working from well water
Our Investigatory project is about water in lead and we want to find out how people in water testing companies are capable of seeing if the water contains lead.
Lead can get into tap water if you have lead pipes in your home. Lead can also enter tap water from if you have lead solder or brass fixtures in your home. Corrosion or wearing away of lead-based materials can add lead to tap water, especially if water sits for a long time in the pipes before use.
Lead can also leach into water if lead is used in locally owned service pipes that connect your home to water mains. Most pipes that carry water to your community are made of iron or steel, and do not add lead to your water.
Water does not contain lead when it leaves the treatment works.
For a long time, generally up to 1970, lead was used for some water pipes. Part or all of the service pipe connecting the water main in the street to your kitchen tap may be made of lead.
Some types of water, particularly soft water from upland areas, can pick up lead from pipes. Water is treated to reduce this where needed. In addition, deposits containing lead can build up in pipes and may occasionally be dislodged.
For these reasons, the amount of lead in drinking water can sometimes be above the standard.
I recently bought a house that is on a well...how often should I have the well water tested? And what tests are important to have healthy safe cleaning and drinking water for my family? thanks!
We test our well annually. The local state university offers this annual testing for a nominal fee. We get to choose the amount of testing we want done. Check with your local agricultural extension in your county or a local farmers co-op. Another thought is to ask a company that digs wells, local Realtors, or home inspectors about who to contact for water testing in your area.
We have a filter on our well to collect fine debris and have added a water softener to minimize calcium build up to protect our pipes. Our water is better tasting than any city water we have ever been around. The only thing missing from well water is fluoride for children's growing teeth. This is easily remedied by brushing with a fluoride solution, you do not ingest the fluoride this way. Your dentist will advise you on this.

Emerald Energy updates Syria, block 26 operations (Scandinavian ...
Emerald Energy provides the following update on operations in Block 26, Syria.
Khurbet East Field Oil Production
Cumulative gross oil production from the Khurbet East field has recently reached 4 million barrels, with minimal water production to date.
Khurbet East No.12 Delineation Well
Drilling operations have been completed at Khurbet East No.12, a vertical delineation well located approximately 3.2 kilometres south of the Khurbet East No.8 vertical well, previously the most southerly well drilled in the field.
Khurbet East No.12 was drilled to a total measured depth of 2,070 metres, encountering the top of the Cretaceous Massive reservoir at a measured depth of 1,984 metres, equivalent to 1,592 metres true vertical depth subsea (TVDSS) and 22 metres deeper than the 1,570 metres TVDSS level interpreted as the best estimate of the oil-water contact for the purpose of determining reserves.
Shows of viscous oil were recorded while drilling through the reservoir and approximately 6 metres of core was recovered near the top of the reservoir. Preliminary analysis of core and wire-line logs indicates approximately 10 metres of net reservoir, extending down to 1,605 metres TVDSS, with an average porosity of 18%. The reservoir parameters and oil quality appear similar to those encountered in Khurbet East No.8 but the average oil saturation is interpreted to be significantly less in the Khurbet East No.12 well. The lower oil saturation levels seen in this well may be due to an extended transition zone or to oil remaining from migration into the field.
...County Releases Phase II Results of Comprehensive Well Water ...
, A component of Dutchess County’s ongoing groundwater protection strategy.
“We continue to enhance and improve our countywide data on ground water quantity and quality with the results of Phase II of our Comprehensive Well Water Testing Program. These results mirror the existing data we have collected from more than 700 public water systems (including over 1800 wells serving over 60 percent of the county’s population) and 11,000 private well logs,” said County Executive Steinhaus.
According to Steve Capowski, Director of Environmental Health, “The County has a voluminous amount of data about groundwater sources, which indicate the aquifers supplying our groundwater sources remain in good shape. Phase II data results are in line with state drinking water standards and our county guidelines for public water supplies.”
