What can I do to fix the problem of water in my window well?
HDR Winnipeg General Store

My basement window well fills up with water every time a heavy rain storm moves in. The drainage at that side of the house is poor, and I have been told to increase the slope near my window well to help with runoff, but I also want to know what else should I do? Can someone help me with a step by step process so this will not happen again in the future??

they make clear plastic covers to fit over the metal well to eliminate rain water going directly in the well. you can install a french drain system just below the bottom of the well height to drain any accumulated water away from the window well

Should a window with water vapour inside its glasses be repaired or replaced?
looking out from within

One window of my 20 yr old house has water condensation inside its two glass pieces. I am thinking of drilling one or two tiny holes on the inside glass piece so that the water vapor can come out.

I realise that these holes may reduce the insulation of the window glasses, as window company told me to replace it. But then again, cold air can always come inside my house through my kitchen exhaust vent and chimney?

Drilling holes may make the problem worse but if your only other option is to replace the window, give it a shot. I'd drill the holes and then use to heat gun to warm the window and the inner space. Once the moisture has been driven out, I'd seal the tiny holes with epoxy or some other material that I could take off as needed to drive out any more moistute that accumulates.

Apparently there are companies that specalize in defogging windows so you may have another option other than replacing the window

Will a Broken storm window allow water into walls and basement?

Will a Broken storm window allow water into the walls and basement?

My husband broke an outer storm window and when it rained, water got into the jam (outside the single paned window) and water streamed into the walls at the baseboard on the same level and into the basement through the hardwood floor and walls.

Is this normal? Or should water not come in? What kind of work do we need to do here besides fixing the storm window?

As long as you get the storm window fixed ASAP, you should be able to avoid any other problems. If your drywall got wet and is cracked, you can patch it with some joint compound, prime and re-paint it.

there is argon gas inbetween the panes of glass, it keeps the window from fogging over. It can be repaired easily. Any glass or window shop should be able to do it.

Window is grade level and water is entering basement through foundation near window. how to fix?
The White Tower- The Tower of London

So here is what makes these more of a pin to fix. there is a concrete sidewalk and asphalt driveway that is 20 feet off of the house and it is about the game elevation as the bottom of the window. the water doesnt appear to be coming through the window because in the basement the floor and wall are wet 7 feet on either side of the window.
its not a concrete block wall, it was formed and poured in sections.

If its a concrete block basement ,the blocks fill with water and drain out a few feet from the crack.only right way to fix is dig down to the footing outside and tar ,plastic wrap the wall and backfill with gravel.i had the same problem cost me $3000 to waterproof and replace 25 feet of concrete.

  • Monitoring Water Leaks in a Basement Window Well

Q: " I need to monitor water leaks into a basement window well in a home in Illinois. Can I place the Flood Detective Stand Alone Water Alarm and additional sensors on the window shelf if the shelf is metal? And can I mount the water alarm and additional sensors on the concrete wall below the window? Also how long is the power cord? Thanks for the reply. Steve." The sensors for this moisture detector "train" together, sensor to sensor, like a daisy chain. Each Flood Detective water sensor has an eight foot (2.44 meters) long flexible, low-impedance corrosion-resistant wire with a two-prong jack on one end. The jack plugs into the sensor plate receptacle. This water sensor design allows multiple sensors to be daisy-chained to a single alarm unit so you can easily place sensors where you need them for flood warnings. In theory, there is no limit to the number of sensors that can be daisy-chained to a Flood Detective alarm unit. Five water alert sensors per alarm seems optimal in determining...

Functional Suggestions To Think About When Buying Window Shades ...

The foremost things to consider when selecting curtain rods and window coverings for the bathrooms are that they will be able to provide adequate privacy and resist water splashes and humidity. Most quality window treatments, as well as wood blinds, will be in a position to resist humidity, however, not direct water force. If the window is close to a bath or shower or any other region where water splashes may occur, then vinyl blinds are potentially your best choice. to achieve maximum privacy, you need to determine whether the gaps are little enough so that no-one can peer into the bathroom. If you are using vertical blinds, inspect the gap below the vertical vanes close to the sill to establish if there’ll be adequate privacy.

Bathrooms are usually the littlest rooms in the home, as well as the largely light-poor rooms. This is, naturally, because of the actuality that privacy is needed, and the fact that the toilet is small, thus resulting in tiny space for windows. In spite of such circumstances, you may still be able to brighten your bathrooms by employing window treatments that let for maximum light. For instance, a pull down window shade can be raised to permit light to filter in, then if you want privacy, merely pull down the shade. You will also leave shutters or mini-blinds partly open all through the day to permit light to permeate thru. These types of window treatments can be dressed up with a valance at the top in a fabric pattern that may coordinate with the remainder of your lavatory accessories.
