Water damage at Mom#39;s house

My house has water damage that happened over time yet was discovered in Oct. 06. I called the people, they game me a claim number and the house was stripped of damage and mold. (Don't ever have mold). Now that there is no kitchen, cabinets taken out, stove in garage, refridgerator in the living room, now how much longer before someone shows up and helps me to restore the house back into a "Home"???

You can always get the work done yourself and have it paid for yourself and regardless of what other answers have led you to believe...the insurer is obligated to pay.

They hold off in paying right away to make certain that it is a valid claim to begin with.

If you have water damage from a maintenance issue, it is not a coverable claim.

You are responsible for making sure you fix water problems in your house.

Homeowner's insurance is not a maintenance contract to fix bad pipes. It is to cover unforseen events like a burst pipe that was unexpected. If you have bad pipes, you should get them fixed.

This delay by the insurer protects you and me from paying premiums that we should have to....in order to pay claims that shouldn't be paid.

I have been staying at my friends houses for a few weeks trying to figure out what to do, but I cannot be their burden much longer. I thought of house sitting to earn money and have a place to stay. Any ideas on what I can do?

File an insurance claim. That or get a loan.

Is it expensive to fix water damage to concrete foundation of a house? I am purchasing a fixer-upper, that has a full basement and some damage to the foundation(mainly under the basement window areas) You can tap into the walls and the water damaged areas of concrete just fall out. Can I just knock out the damaged areas and relplace with new concrete? The problem was there was grass all the way up to the foundation on one side of the house, replaced by concrete about 7 years ago.

I would advise that you have a concrete business come in and look at it, and give you an estimate. You might be able to tackle this project yourself, but being the foundation.. any errors should be minimized if at all possible. A failing foundation will negate any improvements made to the rest of the home.

If you have any areas of foundation that are cracked, or uneven, then a "mudjacking" company might be your best bet.

We live in California and have some long term (it may have just happened but we just now found it) water damage to our bathroom that we want to file a claim We have heard that if you file a claim that it will make it difficult if not impossible for future buyers to purchase insurance for your home...thus making it less desirable or much more difficult to sell.

We feel like this is why we have insurance. Should we fix the problems by ourselves or would you file a claim? Any suggestions from insurance brokers would be fantastic.
