My house uses well water, and when it rains the well fills with dirt, and the water stops running in the house. So I turned the water off, but when I turn it back on, the clear cylindrical case housing the filters fills with muddy water. If I wait, will the well fill higher and dissipate the mud, or can I turn it on now? I want water!
If your getting dirt into your well then you have a serious problem with it. Yes it will clog up the filters, but more importantly you could get sick from that water. Sounds like you need to have some well repairs done. In my 21 years of where I'm living my well water has always been crystal clear, I don't even need filters.

we bought a house with a well and don't know how the basic system works. We've heard that there's a bladder or reservoir, and a pump....anyone who can explain the basics?
Yes you have a well, and the pump which is either in the well or in the house that has a control box to regulate pressure. it goes into a reservoir tank or blatter tank to even the pressure. then into your main supply. I will try to find link for you

Our house currently is on a well and they are hooking all of the lots on our street up to city water. We simply have to pay to connect from our house to the street. I want to know how extensive of a project this is and how expensive it is. Our house is only 10 years old, so everything is up to code right now.
Cape Coral? It costs about 300.00 for the plumber to install the pipe. and if your hooking to sewer that will be 800.00 plus you will have to abandon your septic tank or remove it 400.00
My water pump to my well is not getting enough pressure to turn it's self off. I have a pre-charged air tank and it has about 36 p.s.i. My pump is set to shut off at about 48 p.s.i, should I put more air in the air tank? Or am I wasting my time with that route? I have no water at my house so any help will be greatly appreciated.
It sounds like you may have a leak.. perhaps the foot valve in the well... I recommend calling a plumber.

#39;House On The Water#39; by formodesign @ Dailytonic
The two Polish architects Jedrzej Lewandowski and Lukasz Skirzynski of formodesign recently presented their proposal for a ‘House on the Water’. The extraordinary design of the self-sufficient two familiy house was a result of research on yacht architecture. “The core is made of concrete and combined with steel cantilever structures. The foundation for the house is a concrete counterweight foot stabilised with the sea bed pile system”, the architects explain.
Eco-friendly features like the water desalination, energy accumulation, ventilation methods, water recycling, heat and energy consumption, tidal and solar energy systems are all there. The ‘House on the Water’ was designed to be sustainable. It is not only the installations, but it’s form and sun orientation. Vertical lines on the facade are the rails for computer driven shading system.” "); return false;' onmouseover='getElementById("bm_mail").src="/wp-content/socBoo/mail2.gif"' onmouseout ='getElementById("bm_mail").src="/wp-content/socBoo/mail.gif"' href='mailto:?subject=Dailytonic - ‘House On The Water’ by formodesign&body=http://www.dailytonic.com/house-on-the-water-by-formodesign/' title='email to a friend'>...How do you chlorinate a well? – The Blogs at HowStuffWorks

How do you chlorinate a well? — Abel, West Bloomfield, Mich.
Marshall Brain answered:
Let’s start with the reason why you need to chlorinate a well. A typical residential well consists of a hole in the ground lined with pipe to prevent cave-ins. The hole might be 200 feet deep and six inches in diameter. A pump hangs at the bottom of the shaft and pumps water to the surface. The well is drilled by a well drilling company like this:
The water in this kind of well is considered to be germ-free. But when you first install the system, or when the system needs maintenance, or if there is a flood, the well gets contaminated and needs to be sterilized. That’s when it is time to chlorinate the well. The basic idea is to put a lot of chlorine (up to 10 gallons of chlorine depending on the size of the well) in the well, run the chlorine through the pump and through all the pipes in your house, let the whole thing sit for 24 hours to kill all the germs, and then eliminate the chlorine.
