Are water that comes out of a whole house water filtration system safe to water plants with?

There's a lot of water that comes out of the whole house water filtration system when it cleans itself. Mine is made by Kinetico and it's comes with 2 filter tanks and 1 softener tank. Can I water plants with that water? It is safe for lawn and other plant life? I hate to see all that water go to waste.

Thanks

there is no salt in soft water, there are sodium ions. salt is sodium chloride. i water my yard and flowers with soft water and have no problems. water softeners remove much of the chlorine from the water. i would be more concerned with the effect of spraying them with heavily chlorinated water.

You are looking for a whole-house water filter set-up. But first you have to have the water analyzed to see what is in it that's causing the odor and staining. (sounds like manganese).
Check with your town and see if they can do it, or if they can recommend someone. Be careful, there's a lot of scamsters trying to sell water filters.

Why should I use a whole house water treatment system?

I'm looking to purchase a water softener / water treatment system but i'm not fully convinced i need one. Is there a real benefit to having one? And who sells the best water softeners / water treatment systems?

Basically a whole house water treatment system processes all the water that enters your home by removing the minerals (mainly calcium and magnesium) that make it hard. Your water acquires these substances as it passes through the water cycle and ends up in the lake or ground water that serves as the course of all your water

The benefits of using such a system come in the areas of improved quality of life and economic savings. Quality of life improvements are related to the taste of food, ease of cleaning, more efficient clothes washing, and personal hygiene benefits.

People who use soft water report that food cooked in it and beverages such as juices, tea and coffee made with it simply taste better. When it comes to cleaning, soft water makes the job easier whether is it washing the dishes or cleaning the sinks taps and tubs in the home. Clothes come out looking whiter and brighter when washed in soft water and you come out of the shower or tub with smoother, softer skin and silkier, shinier hair.

The economic savings of using soft water come in three main areas. First, using soft water increases the effectiveness of all your cleaning products that are used in water such as laundry detergent, hand and body soap and dish washing liquid. This is because hard water requires more soap to clean things well. The softer the water, the less soap needed for the same or better results.

The second economic benefit of a water treatment system is that your appliances that use water will last longer. Studies have shown that soft water will increase the lifespan of dishwashers and clothes washers, facets, toilets and water heaters. Soft water also prolongs the lifespan of your clothes by up to 15 percent according to one study.

The third savings that results from treating hard water is a reduction in the amount of energy required to heat water. Over time, calcium deposits can build up on the inside of your water heater, thus reducing its efficiency. A U.S. Bureau of Standards study demonstrated that soft water can save up to 21.7% of the energy used by an electric water heater and 29.5% by a gas-fired unit.

Save Money With A Home Water Treatment System

Purchasing a home water treatment system in your home can be confusing because there are so many different ones out there. The first thing you need to ask yourself is what kind of water treatment system do you need? Once you have answered that you will then need to know how much you are willing to spend.

Like many of you, I have to balance the familys budget. So, I have to look at how much a system costs and consider if it is worth the extra price. I also look at how much it costs to use home water treatment systems on a daily, monthly or annual level. There is a considerable difference in the costs that are associated with the various systems on the market.

I pay for my water, maybe you do, too. My sister lives in a different city and her water is free. But, we need the same water treatment products, because both of us have high levels of chlorine and where there is chlorine, there are cancer-causing THMs (trihalomethanes).

Regulating agencies have tried to convince as the amount of THMs or trihalomethanes in publicly treated supplies are safe, even thought the chemicals are classified as known human carcinogens. There is no way to determine what level is safe, because we have multiple sources of exposure.

Deck Stairs: Choosing Whole House Water Filters

When shopping for whole house water filters, you have a number of choices. The right choice in a whole house water filter depends on the contaminants in your supply. The information here should help you choose the right product.

Do you have a private well?

If you have a private well, the US Environmental Protection Agency recommends that you have annual testing done to confirm the purity of your supply. Testing can be expensive, but you need a reliable and accurate record. It's not just about "which" whole house water filters to purchase. A testing record can be used to prove that incoming industry or construction damaged your supply.

Are you serviced by a public treatment facility?

If you are serviced by a public provider your primary need is chlorine removal. You want a whole house water filter that is UL (Underwriters laboratory) or NSF certified. WQA certifications are made by a trade group that allows members to "claim" performance, without providing the data to back up their claims.
